USB plug in glove box
Anyone got any info on this USB plug? I've used the one under the arm rest for playing music through a USB stick or the iPhone but don't have too much info on the other one.
I did manage to copy some music from a USB stick to the internal hard drive on the 1M through the glove box USB but that's it. I tried hooking up an external HD but it wouldn't recognize it. Any thoughts/ideas/info? |

It is for just what you did.. to download music into the car... but you cant go the other way as the car encrypts it.
also it doubles as a service port for the Navigation maps... this is how the maps are loaded into the car at PDI and at updates.

I thought you could copy your music library back off - I'm sure I read about making a backup of the disk in the manual...?

Where is this USB port exactly? I always assumed it was near the valet switch, but I can't find it.
There's an option for backing up your hard drive... so it's a two way copy. I think it just mentions it cannot play encrypted music (IE: Old Apple DRM format. The new stuff is fine) |

If you open your glove box and peak your head in, you'll see the USB plug on the top side.

I use it to power my iPhone 4. It works well and the cord is hidden and out of the way. The I drive also recognizes it just as it does when the under center console USB plug is used. All is good.

Thanks a lot. No, I don't have it. The location is right there, that little box like plastic place but no plug inside. Like the valet lock or the trunk opener

To all those with a EURO spec 1M: does any of you have a USB port inside the glovebox (to be distinguished from the USB and AUX port under the armrest between the front seats) ?
My SATNAV requests to import navi itinerary files via the USB port inside "the glovebox". I suppose the system means "under the armrest". US spec 1M glovebox:

For downloading an official software update for communication and entertainment, fill in the last 7 digits of the VIN of your car at this webpage of the official BMW website:
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/con...re_update.html For an update of SATNAV maps, check at your dealer for the latest version. My query is not related to an update. A forum fellow kindly prepared a couple of navi files of itineraries for a forthcoming trip. I would like to import/load these into my SATNAV.

UPDATE. I checked inside the glovebox and effectively found/discovered the USB port. Once I plugged in the USB stick in that USB port and clicked "Import journey (USB)", it started to download the itineraries which a forum fellow had kindly prepared (bar with increasing percentages). Subsequently the imported journeys appeared in the SATNAV menu. Checked these and these all work. Good job.
Conclusion: my mistake - I was using the wrong USB port for importing the SATNAV itineraries (inside the glove box = correct USB port | under the armrest = incorrect USB port).
