So far I'm probably in the minority but I'd take the 1M. It's faster, wider, lower and if I'm not sounding to crazy, better looking. I give the front and rear styling to the 1M and the side to the M3. Yeah, I'll always like the M3 and has aged well as already mentioned. Something about forced induction (coming from my 04 STi) and able to get more power for your buck.

hahaha ok. fair enough.

bone stock: 1M looks more aggressive from the front end, but the rest is unporportional. Bottom line: The 1M doesnt look good in my eyes.
E46 M3 looks better, but is outdated.

My vote is still for e46 m3. but I wouldnt purchase any of them at this time.

You can always add forced induction to an E46 . I however can't wait to see what turbo kit options come out for the 1M from aftermarket companies, that will make it a KILLING MACHINE and look good while doing it...

Quick question, what suspension setup are you using on your EB E46 M? Exactly the right ride height I want!

Gary, good to meet you earlier today and great idea about the photo shoot.
I love your estoril blue e46 m3 - perfect color and beautifully maintained.
Two beautiful cars side by side.

Best -

Thread title is a misconception - there is no comparison

Estoril is one of the great BMW colors and the E46 M3 will be a classic without a doubt.

both cars are beautiful - i also like all the palm trees you got there

E46 still looks amazing - almost bought myself a CSL this spring but rather have a brand new car for the same money

all those people who say the 1M is out of proportion - please check it out in the flesh - pictures dont do it justice - last week i went to the bmw welt in munich where they have all cars on display - IMO it was the most stunning car there (ok, i might be a litte biased though)

"please check it out in the flesh - pictures dont do it justice" referring to 1m.

I agree and it was my 1m in the Photos. Comparing the 2 cars based on the photos alone, the e46 M3 photographs beautifully and the color Estoril blue is one of the nicest I have ever seen on any BMW. The e46 M3 has aged gracefully and looks great from almost every angle.

The 1m VO doesn't photograph nearly as well but there is a big difference between the photos and the beauty of the actual car. In person the car has an amazing presence.

I was also on the fence about ordering VO (originally ordered AW) but I am very happy I went with the VO. Very unique color and fits the 1m's lines perfectly.

Don't worry about the "baby googily" eyes...if you choose an e46 M3 all you'll see from the 1M are the tail lights can't wait for mine to get here!!!

Interesting that the 1M weighs less, as the same HP, up to 100lb/ft more torque, and can barely keep up with the E46 M3 in a straight line.

Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream.

In the real world the 1m spanks the e46 in a straight line.

Nice cars! Does anyone else think you guys are FL Gator fans?
I don't recommend a trip to Tallahassee together.

THIS.
The 1M just dominates, wherever it is.

In the showroom, in a driveway, in a parking lot, on the street - it takes over the area and won't let go of the attention. This is true regardless of whether the viewer is interested in cars or not. I've had several women stop, look back, and comment on the car in the first week; some of them have left their boyfriends in coming back to look over the car. I've seen kids and young men turn corners, back up, get out of their cars, take photos, etc.

It just doesn't look like anything, even (especially) BMW. It doesn't run like anything else. Even BMW. An unreserved success in every way.

BTW - if anyone is still deciding - go VO. The car requires it.

I think for the average level enthusiast that for the most part occupy this board the DCT would be faster. I personally can heel/toe pretty good but I chose DCT so I could focus on other weaker areas, like brake modulation.
