I have to agree that I would rather have the chrome trim than the black trim. Even on my black metallic 1er I don't think it looks in place to have the shadowline trim, and many self service washes where you have the "wash gun" makes the trim appear to have rust.

I find the chrome cheapens the look of the car. Every car manufacturer is trying to put chrome on anything to add value to their car and brand... I like what BMW is doing with the shadow line trim.
It steers away from the assumption that chrome is more money. Look at the exhaust tip on the 135i for example (maybe on the 128i as well?). They're now blacked out instead of being a blingy chrome. It's so much more subtle and looks gorgeous once cleaned. Why do you think so many people are replacing their kidney grilles in the front for blacked out instead of the chrome? In fact, I would rather BMW include black kidney grilles with the shadow line, it would make me happier! To each their own, though, and if that's a major concern for you, wait until you drive the car, you'll forget about it completely |

^^^ Agreed.... before I bought the car I thought the chrome was cool... now I am gonna have to shell out a little cash to get my trim wrapped in black vinyl (kicking myself for not getting sport package still)

I prefer shadow line +1^1,000. It's a quality material, not to be confused with the plastic on base model 3ers of past. Shadow line boosts the sporting image of the car, cleaner lines and muscular, chrome breaks that up on a coupe. I do, however, prefer chrome on the more luxury Bimmer sedans (ie. premium spec 3,5,7)
