And going OT :

Any car made before 1988 is easy to import i.e. 25 years and older - just does NOT have to be on SEVS. I just brought in an E28 M5 from NZ - 1987 South African built! All u need is import approval B4 the car ships, and then pay duty on purchase price and GST on purchase price + shipping costs!
was the 6k one way?

good to know, thanks! i've only ever looked into <25y/o cars before. nnnice on the m5 too!

a friend of a friend is shipping his car to italy for two weeks its costing him 20k.

like i said before buy a 2006 m3 and forget about taking your 1M... even if you just leave the m3 in the uk for a year and import it and rego it. you'll have two cars and change of 20k.

you have to be a resident for full 12mth with paperwork... and a good e46 m3 6mt is near 10k gbp + fees.

6k return isn't a bad deal though!.. 90d each way is

Here's a lot of info....

$ wise, $6k seems to be the number, give or take a few dollars.

Now, I remembered why I given up the idea sending my car to europe - the 90d each way. I had a quick look at transport by plane and decided that it was very excessive.

if you were planning on being there for 12 months then the theory has legs but otherwise your without your car for 6-9 months.

actually why not just flog off the one you have, buy a new one in the uk, drive it for 12 months and then bring that one back?

Sounds crazy, but then again I'm still keen to ship my bike over, do the I.O.M. thing and then tour southern Europe.

Tried this with the 1M, Way, another guy and us offered to do it no cost to BM and they wouldn't do it.

I'm skeptical about delivery via ship to Europe. Do they re-coat the areas with the hydrocarbon polymer to prevent corrosion like they do from the factory during pre-delivery? It's quite an important step that prevents from ocean salt-water corrosion (most of the money spend on delivery is accounted for in that step + removal of it post landing on our shores)

I'd fly it over if I were you.

Is this a problem in a container vs the open hold of a car carrier?
