just out of curiousity...i'd like to know what makes the people buy the wagons vs. the sedans and vise versa?

Along with the minivan, I will never own a wagon. Its a matter of personal taste.

I will go back to driving an SUV before a wagon or minivan. I chose the E90 for many reasons, and wouldnt consider a wagon. Just an FYI, I am not married and dont have kids. This car is not a people mover...

I chose the wagon/touring as our family will soon become 4 as opposed to 2. Having said that, for some reason I prefer the look of the touring to the saloon in the E9x. I think it's to do with the light clusters on the rear. It all seems a little less generic with the E91.

I don't see the purpose of a wagon, as all you get is a little more trunk space. There's no 3rd row seat is there? So the argument for families is kinda moot.

Depends what you are carrying. If you carry larger items that need the height then obviously a wagon is a better choice.

As for families, perhaps that should be younger families. With twins arriving in the next few weeks, a saloon would be no good for us. We've got to get a double-buggy in there plus all the other paraphernalia. We've also got a dog so the trunk space is ideal for that.

I'll have one because it's more room for the head in the back.. long passangers here when they're there! And when they're not I still have a pretty small car which is alot of fun to drive!

I have a 100lb dog and he doesn't like the backseat.

BTW, my current wagon does have a 3rd row and will seat 7. Plus, I used my roof rails to bring home a new head board and the cargo area to bring home the matching bench that she wanted.

I would love to have a 330d Touring, will BMW bring it to me in the next year or so?

I chose the Wagon, because there is more space than in the sedan... People in the backseats have more headroom, and I can carry larger objects in the trunk... and soon there will be kids!

PS: I do like it's design better, too!

The wagon looks too much like a family vehicle. Same geekiness as a Volvo wagon. I would not purchase one. (nor a minivan.) Ever.
Only reason we are getting a sedan is easier to load the dogs. Otherwise it'd be a coupe for sure.

American culture is pretty wierd on this -- tourings are the rage in euro, associated with more active lifestyle, more akin to the image that the four-runner used to have for the 'outdoor' rock-climbing, mountain-biking, wind-surfing, back-packing set.

The E91 is "Freude am fahren." Practical, fun, less pretentious.

I would buy a 335 E91 in a heartbeat.

I would rock :rocks: a wagon! Had a Volvo V70 T5 that was so fun to drive.

If audi can have an S4 wagon variant why cant BMW with their M3?

You get a lot more cargo space and versatility, and you can handle large and bulky items very easily. You also get much better performance, handling, braking, fuel mileage, and looks vs an equivalent SUV. I would not get an 325xiT because it's still a little small for me and on the slow side, but it's an awesome car nonetheless. Between that and an X3, my wife and I would go for the E91 easily.

The one that really has our attention is the 530xiT. I love it. I'd get one of those for sure since they put the more powerful I-6 in it, but my wife is probably going to stick with her SUVs so there's not much point. Might as well get the sedan with RWD which is faster, lighter, more economical, and a lot cheaper. We'll let the SUV do all the AWD and cargo handling stuff.

Wagon for me because I scuba, ski and plan to start handgliding -- fun to drive, have fun doing what I LOVE to do and another bonus - have fun coming back. So, in short FUN, FUN, FUN.

Oh, and BTW I LOVE how E91 looks!

I bought the E90 because I saw the debut showroom model and fell in love after a test drive (first BMW). After a few months of ownership, I wanted to replace our Subaru Outback, which was a great car - but lacking in availble gadgets, option, and ammenities. I actually had my wife test drive an X3 but she didn't care for it. Then she saw the press release photos for the E91 and she loved them. In August we ordered our E91 for the first batch of September production and October delivery.

It's nice to have a wagon for the extra cargo space (and no, the sedan does not have nearly as much) and convinience. The AWD is also something we like having for when there is winter weather to contend with.

I'd have a difficult time saying which is my favorite. From the driver's seat you really cannot tell the difference - especially in ours because the interiors are identical. It's great going from one car to the other and making no mental adjustments about wipers, headlights, audio controls, etc. - and of course the seat and mirror positions take care of themselves!

I'm very happy with our two girls. No regrets. The sedan vs. wagon vs. coupe vs. cabrio debates are just silly. You buy the one you like or need - to each his own. Sometimes you can do both... which is great!
