Cayman S would be another possibility.

Not many other cars interest me; the current BMWs feel too disconnected/videogame-y. The 128i strikes the perfect balance for me in terms of fun, useability and (relatively) cheap maintenance, particularly on expendable items for the track.
+1 however i may look at some N54 135is' if i can not find someone to properly tune that 125i of mine, one would think that Germany has some knowledgeable people/tuners for NA engines, sadly only the M cars so (S50/52/54/65 engines), non M engines here....not much.

I could not find any information in Germany regarding the GT350, however i heard that it has an issue with an oil pump, unsure if it is true or just a one off thing. Shame that all the glorious affordable engines have issues.
This is not just any NA engine. It's Ford's high revving, flat-plane-crank V8 known as "Voodoo." The big difference is the flat-plane-crankshaft, like a Ferrari engine, versus a traditional American cross-plane-crank V8. It has a unique wail of an exhaust sound and a high revving 8250 rpm redline. This is one hell of an engine, especially for a Mustang.

Same here. I like the mechanicals and performance, but I HATE the interior. The Civic Type R has a decent interior, but ghastly body. I like the STI's purely functional interior and the exterior is tolerable.

It's like an S65 with torque, even more power...and a better sound (intake sound is fantastic on the S65, but the chainsaw being destroyed by chainsaws being destroyed by fire and explosives being destroyed by a black hole (science notwithstanding) sound is WAY cooler) . Unfortunately, I think the GT350 is a North America-only thing...

Either an m3 or audi s3 or if I didn't already have one a boxster. I had a blue 2016+ civic type r try to race me yesterday on the way home from work. I think the little 1 series surprised him after I pulled away... i have to admit though it was faster than i thought it would be . I know he had aftermarket exhaust and intercooler at the least.... just an ugly looking car.... not in an sti ugly but cool way....just ugly like a Pontiac aztek

The Civic Type-R is gross looking. Hideous, really. But, I can respect its capabilities...

I do love the screaming sound and high revving nature (8400 rpm) of the S65, but I have more low end torque in my lightly tuned N55. And it's more useable around town. But That Sound!! Haha! Have to say, I think mine sounds pretty decent as well with the PE and PPK. To me there's nothing like the sound of a V8, though.

Feels tight, engine is responsive, its decently quick....and then there's the gearbox....throws are about a mile long and it most definitely doesn't like to be hurried, although that may have something to do with the rev hang. One car I would consider is the Mini Cooper Countryman S All4.

It's a 4dr, AWD with a 4cyl turbo that has 189 hp & 207 tq. There is a factory tube available to get it up to the JCW "works" tune with 228 hp & 258 lb-ft. Or there are aftermarket tunes as well.

Our 2011 Countryman is the non-S base model. It's fun to drive, not slow (but not fast like the 135) but its utility factor can't be beat. It's a great car really.

I will probably consider one if I had to get a different car.

If I had to stick with one car I'd only want a 1M. If we're talking within reasonable dreams here I'd have a C6 track car and a Toyota 4Runner as a DD.

Had a couple of 4Runners back in the day. Had a Forest Green one that I really loved.

Had a Tacoma PreRunner Stepside and had a TRD supercharger put in it. Lots of fun!

I've always been a fan, especially of the new ones. The SC'd PreRunner must have been an animal!

Don't have any pics but it was a silver 2001 truck with 270 hp. Not a lot by today's standards but fun for its time.

Looked something like this:

Me too.

Forrest Green 3rd gen, and a silver one after that. Also had an extra cab "Truck" when they only had one model.

Oddly enough, I cross-shopped the Taco. I'm happy Toyota still offers a 6-speed manual option, but I wish it were available in more trim levels. Why can't I just get a V6 SR5 PreRunner in 2WD with the 6-speed???

Mk4 supra or r32 gtr. Not much else out there with an inline 6 turbo for this price range. Surprised the 1 series aren't worth more.

I read somewhere that the oil pump is an issue? some owners have already got failed engines on the track.

So am I. I think they will be soon. They are a great performance bargain right now which means lots of young drivers will buy them up, trash them, and send them off to the junkyard when the serious repair bills hit. A well-maintained 1 series will be very hard to find in 10 years. Look at the prices on Fox body Mustangs right now! They were never rare or collectible, but it's hard to find one that hasn't been trashed because it was dirt cheap.

Just read of some occurrences on the Mustang forums.

I guess we'll see if it amounts to a recall or an extended warranty or something.

Nah man. Loads of unsold Focus RS sitting around at big fat discounts. You can easily get test drives...it's a great car to drive...

I know the new Mustangs will put down similar numbers to an M3, but it's the way they feel when they do it that makes all the difference.

This and the lack of a 2-door hatch are my reasons for passing on the R. I love the way they drive when new, but I'm scared about long-term reliability...and that's from a BMW owner.
The 2018 Mark 7.5 R has a 6 year, 72000 mile warranty. As long as you don't mod it, you should get that. It's a powerful fun little car with a lot of practicality, 4 doors plus hatch, AWD, etc., but like almost all the current vintage cars is a bit sterile, with the EPS and such.

I've been driving my 2000 Z3M coupe the last few days; it's an S52/poor man's M-Coupe (e.g. not the coveted S54 version of which there are 700 odd examples). Although "only" having 240 HP, it's a total hoot to drive, has more than enough power, and is everything that the modern cars are NOT; totally connected, visceral, analog.

Maybe the solution is to just find an old (hopefully MT) car with hydraulic steering to use as a weekend car, then buy something practical that's boring as hell for everyday, but something that gets the job done and has a warranty.

For me it would have to be a GT3 in Oak Green Metallic or the GT4.
