I know this is an old thread. But is there any reason people don't do this procedure apart from the fact that the 255 is easier and significantly cheaper?

i would imagine that is all.. i however went ahead and did the 450 with a 255 inline..
Here are the PITA parts Trying to drop a bucket and an additional pump inline at the same time and hook up all the connectors is NOT FUN. (additionally having your face around the open tank is absolutely nauseating.. and i was the kid who enjoyed the smell of the diesel yellow buses) Ripping apart the stock bucket delicately was NOT FUN. (to the point that bmw sells the pump in a new bucket if one had to replace it) Trying to fit the 450 series in the stock bucket (you will need to modify it to fit the pump) is NOT FUN. Other than that its not bad.. and for another hundred bucks imo worth it while you are down there.. there is abolutely no need for it unless you are trying to fuel a single/big twin car on just e85 though.. i think even on pump gas the 255 will work for most up until 700 or so? idr the numbers so if you want an easy no frills install 255 only.. |

Looks like i am just going to replace the stock pump with the 450 and run a t piece down to the venturi. My bucket may have received some damage during the disassembley. It was a second hand one I bought though, so I will try on the one in my car atm and see which one I massacre the least.
