The 128 isn't slow but it's also not fast. Compared to the 135 it does feel quite sluggish though. Again it depends what kind of driver you are—-the adrenaline rush of the twin turbos is something else though—way more urgent of a car.

Apparently there are a lot of salvaged-titled 128i's out there. Has anyone had a "good" experience buying salvaged? I normally would never do it.

Just for the other side, love my 135.
Did drive a 128 auto (E88), did not enjoy as much. |

328i e93 auto delivers power (the little it has lol) gobs better than 128 from my experience (owned countless e9x cars). It's mainly due to different gear ratio. 3.73 vs 3.91, as well as a better convertible chassis. I'll wait for your findings and put up few more points here then. Enjoy. |

Drove an '08 328i auto with 105k miles. Was seriously sluggish. I think the manual would allow me to whip it up a bit, and the top end would be more satisfying. The extra room of the 3 vs. 1 was somewhat welcome, as was the retractable hardtop (the garage is full atm.) I'm considering the 328 and 128 on equal footing now, possibly with an edge to a comparably spec'd E93 car.

128 all the way
If you are not gong with manual trans, definitely go with 135i. Not enough torque with 128 and auto.
With manual transmission, 128i is the more enjoyable car to wring out, sharp reflexes even without the sport suspension. |
