Do you know what the brake piston size is for the rear 335i brakes and if it is the same as the 135i rear?

Don't know sorry. Apparently it is an upgrade due to bigger rotors, but the hub needs to be swapped out. I've left the 135i rears on

Great upgrade, I've never had a second thought about doing this swap. I bet you'll find yourself doing the rears as well just due to pad and rotor availability and price. The hub swap isn't that bad at all.

Yeah I think I will, apparently it reduces wheel clearance also? I am currently sticking to OEM wheels front and rear but after some testing I will most likely dive into square setups etc.

Anyway, car is now ready for a track day! Ended up doing an oil change and cleaning the VANOS Solenoids so hopefully that sorts out my VANOS issues.

Changing the hubs can affect the required offset for the rims. If you change to 130i hubs, you will reduce the rear track by 10~11mm per side. E92 coupe 335i rear hubs are probably the same as the 130i hubs (you should check part numbers on real oem website). E90 LCI sedans had wider rear track than the E92 coupe, but I don't know if the E90 LCI sedan caliper brackets would be a direct fit on the 135i without changing the hubs. Its important to figure all this out before you buy new wheels, so you can choose the best offsets.

I think brake pad selection may be an advantage for changing the rear brakes, however its not essential to run identical pads front and rear. You would have changed the brake bias by swapping calipers anyway. Somewhere there is a thread that goes into detail about brake bias effect of 335i calipers vs M3 vs 135i, according to the piston diameters.

I searched and found some comparison of brake piston sizes:

E92 M3 Front: 60mm
E92 335i Front: 57mm
E82 135i Front: 28mm+32mm+36mm (equivalent to 55.71mm single piston)

E92 M3 Rear: 46mm
E92 335i Rear: 44mm
E82 135i Rear 42mm

Thanks for that! Do you know if the 135i rears have the piston/dust boot issues the fronts have?

In my case the rears were ok, but the Front dust boots had to be replaced.

Finally testing the new brakes at Luddenham Raceway this weekend, it looks like a fun little track so will upload some footage next week.

EDIT: (deleted massive photos of diff I am no longer buying)

Cheers

Looks exactly like the one in my N55 135. I think there were different input flange styles though. RealOEM should be able to tell you which style your car is.

Luddenham was an absolute BLAST

My brother and I took the car out to Luddenham Raceway, a short 1.4km track but is really technical with a lot of off camber cornering and uphill braking which is awesome.

I went from a 1.02 down to 59.3 and my brother (the better driver) managed a 56 flat, quicker than a GT4 and 5th overall. Not bad for a stock tune but the car hardly got out of 3rd gear.

My biggest surprise were the brakes. What an upgrade and true to the budget theme of the car. I won't be needing a BBK any time soon. Really consistent and good pedal feel and pulled up hard. The Ferodo DS2500's are also an excellent pad, on the road I've had no issues with cold pads or squealing and they pull up hard on the track.
Also didn't have issues with VANOS as cleaning them seems to have done the trick.

Anyway, the big news is I have sourced a new engine with only 51,000kms so I'll be doing a swap in the coming months. Leaning towards reliability more than anything so won't be touching internals or going for high boost.

If anyone can recommend what I should do whilst the engine is out that would be appreciated. Cheers

Lol, wait till you get to Pheasant Wood. Pretty much all 3rd gear for a well hooked up car. Even Wakefield is mostly 3rd gear except the S/F Straight.
Those tracks will kill those pads, esp just about any SMSP configuration is hard on brakes.

Never been there but 56 sounds quick. Well done.

Yeah SMSP is the real test for this car. Oil temps and brake temps especially.

I did the south circuit and copped limp mode due to vanos issues but hopefully I have solved that by cleaning them.

Pheasant wood looks fun but if I'm out that way may as well go to Wakefield!

Glad the 335i brake conversion worked out for you. The front discs are larger and thicker than stock. Your brother showed some good steering technique at the end of the video. Good save!

I think Wakefield is harder on pads than SMP GP circuit. However the SMP South circuit doesn't give very good cooling for the brakes due to lack of straights.
