Intake silencer or intake muffler?

The intake muffler seems to be the air filter box.

Is there a part number in your estimate?

It's more commonly called the intake boot. It attaches between the throttle body and the air filter box. If you wanted, you could install a silicon intake boot that adds a little more growl to the engine's sound since you're replacing it. Mishimoto and Turner make some options.

Thanks for the responses. No part number was given it was wrapped into a $7000 quote they gave my daughter for a crank sensor and eccentric shaft sensor replacement. Added to that was the recommended silencer and a valve cover change The car went in for a DSC light and this noise. Don't want to change to a tube this is my kids car not sure she wants a growl My Z4 Coupe yes. Not sure they are offering her proper service.

The hissing might actually be the crankcase breather within the valve cover that's broken. That's why they might be recommending the valve cover be replaced

I would definitely get a second opinion on these repairs. If you go to an independent mechanic who's willing to work with you, you could get all this done for WAY cheaper.

$7000 to replace two sensors - I assume that included a new transmission?
