Thanks for putting that up there. I'm going to get the same set. I'll call Gill right now.

I went to my local tire guy, and he gave me this run around and quoted me over $3000.

How long did it take for the delivery??

Any reason why you picked the Blizzaks?

I'm thinking of getting maybe the Goodyear winter performance tires...

Stefan,

Those look like a great buy! Love the look of those rims. They'd look awesome on a SBM.

I'm very tempted.

Are the Blizzaks a snow tire or just a winter tire? Is there a difference? (might be a dumb question but I'm from London, UK, where it virtually never snows!)

Anyone in Vancouver/Lower Mainland want to combine an order?

.

The Blizzaks are winter tires that are capable of being driven in the Mud and Snow but unlike all-seasons they actually work well in the snow and extreme cold.

So perfect for us in Vancouver? Or overkill?

With the amount of snow we've been getting lately it is a good idea to get snow tires. Especially if your out in the valley. It snows a lot more out there than it does in town.

I live in the burbs and wouldn't think of driving the winter without snowies. High performance snowies though.

I have a set of X-ICE on one E36 and Blizzaks on the other. The Blizzaks are grippier in my experience in Calgary.

Winter in Calgary gets cold.. last winter it got exceptionally cold. Winter tires are a must. Also.. they are a heck of a lot more fun and stable. Do yourself a favour!

I'm not anywhere near your end of the country, but I find that some of the most difficult snow to drive in is the really wet slushy kind (which I imagine is what you mostly get around Vancouver). The colder hard-packed stuff seems easier to manage.

The thing I always tell people about getting winter tires to remember is that its that much less mileage you're putting on your summer tires. And for most BMWs, winter tires are cheaper than summer tires. The only extra financial outlay is the cost of the rims and getting the tires switched over.

A very good point, Tim. Didn't think of that

stefan

That is a nice set.

Are those a Runflat tire? Should there be any concern about getting Runflat winter tires?

Price?
I don't think RFT's are worth it for winter.

I am going for the same package as Stefan with the Blizzak's. I had a set before and was happy. A coworker has a 330 sedan and he had a set of Blizzaks and a set of Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D and he was really happy with them. He actually thought the Dunlops might have slightly better grip in the snow.

Hey Stefan, any particular reason you went with the XL load rating other than the higher speed rating? How much stiffer of a ride do you think you'll get compared to the regular 91H tires?

I've been bouncing back and forth into tirerack and even spoke to Gill. I am tempted to the KM11, KV5 or Sport Touring style Rims for winter. Thought of going with a 205, but now I see an early entry to the 225's on 17, I really like them. Guess if you get stuck, get stuck in style!

And I am convince that if you Vancouver people order these, then the snow can't be that much worse in Toronto.

BTW, would love to get snap shoots of the tires/rim on the car. Maybe even earlier that the first snow fall. Stefan, any chance ???

Thanks for the sharing.
