BMW Owners and Forums

I don't understand who is on these forums, the 1addicts forums is better than most. I went to the Dyno day that was setup today and I met some really nice people, very friendly social same thing at the Liberty meet in NJ. I gave a fellow member a left over K&N drop in filter it was a good day a lot of fun. Then I go on E90 and you get a lot of smart ass remarks or people talking about things or you that they have no clue about. I do not find this nearly as much here. I can only figure that it is age and that since you can by a 335i pre owned they have a younger following and less mature. I am sure the same will happen with 1addicts once the price goes down but I hope not. I don't mean to start a forum war, but if you get a bunch of guys that go out and spend money on a Dyno day or take the time to give a review of a product show some respect. I am glad every time I read a review of a product from a fellow member or see Dyno results that someone took the time to go do it helps me make an informed decision. There were JB3 owners today putting up great numbers I was very impressed and if I read a review of it before I got the DINAN software I would have bought a JB3 for sure. So I do not understand people that have to put down other peoples mods and decisions. I do not want people to not bother posting reviews because they do not want the hassel of listening to small minded people. Again I can only figure it is immaturity of the people posting. Thank you for reading my rant and I appreciate all the members who do write reviews and post there dyno numbers for the betterment of our community.

I completely understand your posting. I noticed on e90post.com on their "dyno day" post it seemed that members were trying to turn every post into a tuner war or simply my shit doesn't stink and your does. Definitely more uptight here, but I like it that way. Thanks moderators!

Age and maturity I guess.

There's a couple of forums I won't touch anymore that are just full of smartarse wan!ers from when I had my WRX.

I give a lot of cred to the moderators. They don't put up with a lot of shit, though their job may not be quite as tedious as the mods have over at e90post. The amount of posts that pile up there in such a short amount of time is ridiculous. I can't stand reading through 12 pages of posts for one f#@*ing answer.

I was registred over 1 and a half year and followed the forum every day. I understand your post very good. I saw at e90post.com many members with a very high technical knowledge (Longtran is such a guy for example). But of course there are always other people who only believe that they have a high technical knowledge.. and the pitty is, that these people show to often their ignorance..

Boards get their own 'feel' based on early members' attitudes towards each other and how 'open' they are to differing viewpoints.

Whilst this board was created in 2005, most, including I, didn't join until after May '07 but there was already a good community established.

One of the things I've noticed is that we have a lot of people coming from different online communities to this one - more heterogeneous if you will. And a lot of them participated in a couple of exemplary online forums, the Scooby boards and miata.net.

I'll stick up for the e90 forum - a ton of useful information there. They evolved differently than we have and that's OK. They certainly are successful if you base success on participation.

As always, there are a lot of folks that believe they know everything (and don't ; -). Fortunately we have more than a handful of excellent technical contributors at this site (a couple of honest-to-gawd BMW techs to boot!) that can gently steer us back on track.

One last thing - politeness, even in disagreement, goes a long way to making any forum readable, youse guys (for the most part ; -) are exceptionally polite - even to noobs - and that is to your credit! This is a good group!!

I attended the Liberty State park gtg and I thought it was meh. Alot of nice cars, but some off the owners were real stuck up esp the e90/2 owners esp m3s, present company excluded. I left after about 2 hours.

I've been to e90post a few times and I swear everyone on there thinks they are street tuners. Not my kind of crowd, so I tend to avoid that board and rather learn more about the 1 and the n54 on this board and n54tech.

I'll also admit that, I've made more friends in 6 months in the VW/Audi Scene, back in 1999/2000 then I have in 6 months in the BMW scene. Just a different kind of owner/driver I guess.

Very true......to quote Bertrand Russell - "The problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so sure of themselves, while wise people are so full of doubt"

I have had a few negative experiences on this forum and have made a conscious decision to no longer contribute. It's just not worth being contaminated by a few ignorant members with closed minds and open mouths.

This forum is particularly good but I think there are quite a few younger members here so I wouldn't put it to age as much as a higher level of maturity.

The no kill stories policy on this sight might be a reason we don't see as many immature people on this sight, at first I was very apposed to that rule but am starting to understand part of the reasoning behind it.

I noticed that too with some of the M3 owners at that meet and other ones I went to. I don't get what the point is of coming out if you are going to act like that. Whenever I am showing my car, if someone asks me a question or comments on my car, I always take the time to talk to them.

Yea I will most likely be there. It looks like it should be a good turnout.
