The valencia orange 1M coupe continues to make its rounds at the U.S. autoshows, this time on display at the 2011 Chicago Autoshow which kicked off yesterday. Although the valencia orange 1M has already been photographed often, these are the first photos showing the 1M coupe's full undercarriage (by use of a full length under-mirror).

One thing revealed by the photos (as stated later in this thread) is that the shocks on the 1M are those from the M3 sedan with competition package.

Enjoy!

Ha! The man finally got his picture of the shock label!

Great pictures! This is exactly what it looks like in real life. The lighting in Detroit was all wrong.

Looks like theese are complete new shocks. At least the Part number does not match with the M3 or the 135i.

They are aluminum dampers possibly to be used on the next M3.

Of course. I have said this in several threads. The shocks are all new for the car. They also have aluminum housings

Ran a part cross-reference, and confirmed my suspicion:

Part 33522284312 (Shock absorber, rear) was found on the following E90N vehicles:

E90N M3 Sedan, S65 (PM93) : REAR SPRING STRUT MOUNTING PARTS

First evidence that the 'developed for 1M' in most instances will mean: M-power engineering confirmed that an existing part works just fine on the 1M as well. Nothing wrong with that of course.

they match the M3 sedan with competition package. This current (aluminum) version apparently is available (~used) since march 2010.

from the resonator back, the exhausting piping diameter looks quite large!!! and there are no goody bends/crush in the pipe compared to a 135i.

I'm really glad to hear that. With that short time of development there were only two things possible: Take existing M-parts or take parts from the existing 135i. So taking existing M-parts is a great choice in my eyes!

I thought that the M3's competition package shocks were electronically adjustable

Your detailed Detroit pictures gave me the impulse for this cross check.

On to: Could anybody try to grab readable shots of the labels on the front shocks ...... ? (not even sure if they're at any accessible angle)

The 1-series M coupe does not share the rear damper with the 135i so the part# would be completely different. Since it is lighter than the M3, damper valving is likely to be different thus a new part number.

Absolutely, it's huge! I think cutting it off on the end and throw the muffler away would make a great sound

Good point: There is a second rear shock part number for E90/E92 M3 vehicles with Competition package. Perhaps I'm reading the table on RealOEM.com wrong

01 Shock absorber, rear 33522284015 S7MAA=Yes
01 Shock absorber, rear 33522284312

I'm assuming the S7MAA=Yes version represents competition package with EDC! So not 100% clear on whether the 1M shock is on any version of the M3 competition package, but sure it is existing!
