Metak's PPDI/CD Experience....
Ok, I'm one of the guys who requested ED and was told "sorry bub, no can do!" So 6 months ago I put my deposit down and not so patiently wait for my car. Well a few weeks ago a get a call from my CA and he tells me "come on down, your car just came of the truck!" So I stuff my boys into the VW Routon along with my wife, who was just rolling her eyes. She didn't understand why I needed to go that night to see it since it still had to go through PDI. I Get there and the car looks stunning! A small crowd of customers and employees all went out to drool over the car. Apparently, this will be more than likely be the only 1M this dealership will see. The sales manager tells me there were at least 4 other guys waiting for me to get hit by a bus so they could get a chance at maybe getting this car.
So one quick stop before we get there......McDonalds. Yup, no fancy German cuisine tonight, this is not ED it's CD(California Delivery). The whole time I keep chanting in my head "no extra deliver miles, no extra deliver miles...." Well, I wasn't disappointed. ONE MILE! Woohoo! I held my breath until I physically took possession of the car. So as part of my Post Deliver routine, I scheduled it for a Venture Shield Clear Bras install the next day. I then started the tedious process of cosmoline removal. 'Earwax' as I like to call it. This car wasn't as bad as others I have had. Took maybe an hour total. If you don't get to it right away, it will bake on and be a lot more difficult to get off. I also didn't want the larger 'older' style M emblem, so I pre-ordered a M3 emblem left the 3 off and now I have the 'newer' smaller, more understated emblem. I like it. Here is a comparison, subtle but at least 3/4 scale of the stock one. OEM part # 51 14 8 041 901 Next. Since the dealer was not able to do a no cost Spoiler Delete like is available on other M cars, I busted out the dental floss an began sawing. I know that some will not like the look, but I have never been a fan of the lip spoilers. I think it looks clean! I already have the black kidney grills and IND gloss side markers in boxes but as you can see by the quality of my iPhone 3gs pics I don't have much free time with 2 identical tots hanging on my pant legs. One thing I notice immediately, IMO, this exhaust is the loudest OEM exhaust I have ever heard on an M car. This makes my E90M3 sound like a limo. Even with the Dinan exhaust it is still quieter than the 1M. I really need to do a ride along with someone who has an Eisenmann exhaust because I really can't imagine being happy with anything louder. And yes, there is a drone! The 1st must have mod for me is the ESS tune for sure. Can't wait! Anyways, thanks for reading my CD experience, I wish it was ED, but all in all, I am quite happy! Some HigherQ pics to come....

Congratulations, Sir.
You got to be one of the few replacing the ///M badge with the ///M3 one. The kids can slam the McDonald's logo on their bicycles, as an alternative. Fancy a sticker ? |

Ive got to say it, how can someone that is seemingly so anal about the looks of their car ( a good thing ) put that painfully obvious clear bra on? Rest of the car.... Hot.

Thanks.

It is really barely noticeable. Most people don't know it's even there. I had to spotlight the front end just to get it to show up on the photo. I have had them on every car and swear by them. I guess you could just do the bumper since it takes about 80% of the abuse, then you would never notice it. |

lol, CD doesn't sound too bad.
What areas of the car had excess cosmoline? Also, if you don't mind sharing, how much did the venture shield cost and for how much coverage? Just trying to ballpark how much I will need to spend when my car gets in.

My clear bra coverage is what you see on the front hood and fenders, the entire bumber and the headlights. I don't like overdoing it because it gets to be the equivalent of your grandmother wrapping the entire couch in plastic...not enjoyable. Cost: $549 Great price IMO. Going cheap can cost you though. Having said that, I've paid way more than that for crappy jobs, you just have to find someone reputable.

That's amazing price! I'll have to see what template my shop is using, because I know that can sometimes impact cost. I'm a repeat customer and I was quoted for $695. I'm assuming you got the mirrors done as well? Still, $150 is quite a difference for the same product!
Great write up, and very clever idea on the M3 badge. I guess I never noticed how big of a difference there was between the two, but I'll know better when I see the car. It looks great. I'm not a huge fan of the lip spoilers either. Does it really have much effect anyway (at high speeds perhaps)? I like the look of the performance spoiler better, but I just can't justify having something on the hood unless there's some solid R&D/reasons behind it. Was considering this mod as well. Congrats on the new car Metak!! |

Na, you'd barely be able to see the clear bra in person unless you were really looking for it...it's a little easier to spot on black cars, but I'm betting it would be pretty hard on white! I had it on a very dark gray car before this, and I really had to try HARD t get it to show up in pictures (when I was trying to sell it, someone asked to SEE the 3M in pictures ).

Congrats! The car looks great and I'm sure your two little back seat passengers will enjoy being chauffeured in it.
CD doesn't sound bad at all. Maybe you can combine it with a trip north to the Wine country? I've never done the cosmo removal. I thought you only had to do that with firearms?!?

Congratulations, Spock. My deepest congratulations to you and yours. You are on the west coast. I am on the east. We are both family men. Perhaps one day we will unite, old friend. In the meantime... peace and long life.

Great writeup, congrats on being able to secure one despite not being 'allowed' to do the ED. Like you taming the 1///M into even more of 'sheep's clothing' attire with the spoiler delete and badge shrinkage

Congrats on the new addition to the family!
I like the subtle mod of the badge too. Well done! They make special cleanser and sealer for the clear film, so be sure to use them to keep it as clear as possible. Here is a link for the products I used when I had the clear film installed. http://premiermobilegroup.com/pf1_products.shtml Yes, get the ESS Tune and you will be very pleased. It adds another punch that you can definitely feel, but the rear end gets even more slippery. Ha!
