Just go JB4, you'll see more gains anyway

It's non-trivial to defeat the security measures put in place to keep third parties from reading and flashing the ECUs these days.
It may be nearly impossible if they're using some sort of public/private key exchange.

I'm not a n55 owner but has Cobb said anything at all about N55 support?

JB4 has been the smoothest tune I've ever put on a car, I've tuned many cars in the past by flashing the ECU, I don't know how Burger managed, but Map1 is so smoooooooooth, also love the steering wheel controls.

Try contacting Cobb Tuning. It appears if your 2012 135i was manufactured prior to 03/2011 then your ECU is in fact, able to be tuned via Accessport.
Also, keep on eye on this thread, as it looks like this company has made some serious strides in cracking these darn ECUs we've got. Progress may very well be on its way. Best of luck to you |

Definitely a frustrating position to be in. Hopefully that link I provided gets people with post 03/11 1ers some tuning options beyond JB4 (not hating on JB4 at all, some folks just want a flash option, I get it). I actually sent them an e-mail regarding their ability to flash our ECU right after posting my original reply. Hopefully they return my message with some good news. If so, I'll post the details. I have a pre 03/2011 model and am still kicking the JB4 idea around, but have the Cobb AP option on the table. I'm still on the fence. |

I had 2011 N55 Cobb OTS Tune, initially was good then came across nothing but issues and logged plenty with heaps of new maps to try... Got sick of it and sold Cobb and Car. I now have 2013 N55 135i DCT.. I was unsure about JB4 but tried it and now loving it... Logged and no issues, power is smooth and pull is awesome.. Give it a try!! You won't look back |

2013 135i DCT JB4
only issue is stalling when accelerating form a stop! (engine actually doesn't shut off) with a careful throttle modulation, that problem is non-existence. everything else is so smooth. the biggest bonus is the steering wheel controls. my favorite is the exhaust flap on-off function the jb4 has. many other options are few click away. and the power.. oh~ though a flash tune is in order when doing a turbo upgrade, so fingers crossed

I have a 2012 N55 and on anything but map 1, I get a part throttle stutter. It seems the boost comes on faster than the timing and fuel and causes a misfire. Other than that I'm 100% happy. As long as I roll the throttle it doesn't happen. Gonna do some logs and send them too bms for refinement.

Here is my original message to them: "Hello! I own a 2012, 135i Coupe (E82 manufactured before 03/2011). After viewing your post on the F80 Bimmerpost forums I found your performance shop's webpage. I wanted to verify that my vehicles ECU is one that you can, indeed tune. I can provide my VIN if need be, also what tuning options are available for those who may have, or plan on purchasing an upgraded/rebuilt-modified turbocharger? Would we simply need to e-mail you what modifications have been applied to the vehicle? Also, to clarify, the ECU must be sent from me (USA) to you in Belgium, correct? I thank you for your time and look forward to our future correspondence." Here was their response: "Yes we can remap that ecu for you, but you need to send it to us in Belgium, we remap it here ( stage 1 or stage 2 ) and send it back to you the same day. If you have questions, let me know regards Bruno Ps we’re now closed for the holidays till jan 5th, we will be replying to emails as of jan 6th" They offer a stage 1 and stage 2 set up, but have only posted HP numbers on their stage 1 offering FWIW. Their site can be found here Good luck, glad to see the JB4 folks are having pretty good feedback as well. |

I can only recommend them. |

Same shit happened with Cobb and the Evo x. Early gen support, no support for later models.
That is one of many reasons I got the JB4 before I even took delivery of my car lol. |

I daily drive my 1er and don't really have anytime to deal w any kind of issues because I work 7-7 most days but that's my problem haha.
Literally, any kind of "studder" or small problem will make me nuts I hate feeling the car change (yes, ocd) I'm considering JB again...just need to find shop and time to do it...if it starts acting up I'm taking it out right away, I'm not planning on running meth ever, turbos yes when someone actually puts out a reliable upgradable snail for the N55. As far as bolt ons I'm pretty much maxed out as far as I can tell...I'm planning on a LSD upgrade in the next few months, but that's the last piece of the puzzle. A custom, tailored to me tune is what I really want...so the Cobb pro tune was the best option coming out of the gates...but not possible (yet*). These BR guys from Belgium look like they're doing good work. I'd like to hear more reviews from ppl who have the tune installed before I would commit to it. Seems like that's a good few months or so before they really have a non-beta release but we shall see
