128i track build - coding recommendation
Hey guys, I bought a low mileage M Sport 6MT (N51) a few months ago. I did a couple of track days (a few weekends apart) at Thunderhill to test the car out before starting the build. Obviously, my 128i didn't take much to go into limp mode due to oil temp after about 4 laps. Since then, I had an oil cooler installed. The 2nd track day was much better with the oil cooler but still got into limp mode briefly towards the end of the last session. From what I learned, I suspect that was due to the computer reducing to reduce engine power to prevent brake overheating even without brake temp sensors. The damn computer tried to speculate
Anyway, I read this thread from the forum: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show...hlight=nannies It is quite lengthy. I didn't get all the details. But I found Protool coding software from Bimmergeeks. I emailed them and asked them if their software can turn off "Engine Power Reduction to Prevent Brake Disc Overheating", "e-Diff" and few other electronic nannies. The answer they gave wasn't very clear, sort of indicated it depends on the DSC/ABS module. Well, that didn't help much. Which coding tool do you guys recommend? DIY or use remote coding service? Appreciate your help!! |

I have protool and can confirm that it can code off everything track related that you'd need to.
Protool has a good fb group and they answer tons of questions. I've even gotten on the phone with them when I had an issue with the first obd dongle they sent me.

Yeah, Protool can do it, but I'd recommend that you read & learn about what you're coding so you understand what you're changing and how to tell if the change took properly or needs to be reset. it's a skill set you'll use over & over again as time goes by...
Alternatively you may wish to consider paying a pro to do the coding for you- nothing wrong with this process at all! In fact it's often encouraged when you need to do coding and want to be safe/not fark anything up, and just get the coding done. Your coder will work with you to define what you want to accomplish, any extras you want to code while y'all are in there, and you can learn a TON while being in safe talented hands to get your coding completed. There are several people and companies that offer this service.

I found out that each series has different abbreviations of these functions. ProTool will have written explanation what is what under DSC coding options. I do it all the time.
Trick is that vectoring function of DSC, ediff. is the one that EATS rear brakes. But it is very useful unless you go LSD. Upgrade brakes. I think rear one on 128 are an issue but there are ways around it. Also, what oil cooler you installed? Heat exchanger (brick) or radiator type? |

Here is the exact model. It's a 19 row universal type. The installation was done by a BMW shop.

I've never used em, so can't think of any right off, but there are several. I'm actually surprised that none have suddenly appeared in here offering their services for you.... https://www.google.com/search?q=bmw+coding+service
