Power Steering Pump still Buzzing
Hi guys, renewed the reservoir & fluid, & the pump still buzzes away like a couple of bees.
When I put stethoscope to pump housing they become a hive lol As you rev they get louder. Car is only on 25k miles, can these pump bearings go this soon? My steering is fine, no grinding or heaviness at all. The pulley seemed to turn smooth & was stable when I had belt off. Only noticed this after renewing belt, tensioners etc., you can hear it wurr on high revs at low speed (1st & 2nd gears) so a bit annoying. Is it ok to leave & monitor it & see if it gets worse? Surely I will notice steering get bad if bearing starts to give up? Just a bit worried if it's possible for pump to suddenly seize & throw the belt. Thanks |

If you got very low, it may take some time to get all the air out of the pump. Turn full lock back and forth a few times and check the reservoir again. If the seals leak, the boots where the steering rods join the hydraulic unit can hold a lot of fluid, so its worth sliding the boots off to check for fluid leaks.
