Airbag wiring recall
Has anyone had their car in for the airbag wiring recall work?
This recall seems to affect all E8x and E9x models, so must be quite extensive. I see they're replacing about 8 parts as well! Anyone know what is involved? Lyndhurst wanted my car booked in for two days; I point blank refused. They then agreed to just book it in for a day. From what I've been able to find on a search, it seems the actual work takes about 2 hours of technician time. |

You can go to NHTSB website to check for recalls. Well... for US recalls.
Did not find any for my 2010 1-er... but there are two for the 2008's. You can search a car for recalls here: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recallsearch.cfm Vehicle Make / Model: Model Year(s): BMW / 1 SERIES 2008 BMW / 3 SERIES 2008 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 09V257000 Summary: BMW IS RECALLING 2,350 MY 2008 1-SERIES AND 3- SERIES PASSENGER CARS. INCORRECT CRIMP CONNECTORS MAY HAVE BEEN USED ON THE SIDE AIR BAG AND BELT TENSIONER WIRING. AS A RESULT SUFFICIENT CONTACT BETWEEN THE CRIMP CONNECTORS AND THE CORRESPONDING PLUG MAY NOT OCCUR WHICH COULD LEAD TO AN INCREASE IN THE ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE OF THAT CONNECTION. Consequence: IF THAT HAPPENED, IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE FOR THE SIDE AIR BAG AND/OR THE SAFETY BELT TENSIONER NOT TO DEPLOY AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROPERLY PROTECT AN OCCUPANT, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURIES. Remedy: BMW WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND SERVICES TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-525-7417. Notes: OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV . ..............
