Looking for spark plug recommendations - E88 N52
My 2009 128i convertible is coming up on 100k miles so I figure it's time to change the plugs. I checked getbmwparts and the OEM plugs are $16.25 (each?). Does anyone have recommendations on replacement plugs? Should I absolutely stick with BMW plugs or are there cheaper plugs which are just as good or better?
The car is a daily driver, no track driving. This is the plug at getbmwparts: https://www.getbmwparts.com/parts/20...&siteid=214672 |

Many BMW tech experts recommend only plugs bought from a BMW dealer. You're only going to change them once (assumption) so go for OE plugs.

The plug shown in RealOEM is NGK LZFR6AP11GS. Sometimes listed as NGK 95712. You should be able to find these for around $60 a set. I bought a set from SixityAuto awhile back. Didn't need them yet but the price was good so they are in my parts stockpile.

I've had these on a 2010 128i for about 1500 miles, solved a low rpm high load misfire (along with new coils).

Did they come gapped correctly and what is the correct gap?

There are diy's on here and plenty of N52 video tutorials. One reason I'm glad I did it now is the plugs were in there really tight as if they might be seizing up. They were the original plugs.

Sixity Auto well over a year ago. They had a money off on anything and a good price so I grabbed them and just put them away. Last time I looked they don't carry NGK, but, if you shop around probably can find them for around $60/set. Search NGK 95712 and see what turns up.

I think I bought NGK iridium from Rock Auto for about $6 a piece. My stock plugs were NGK and were visibly bigger gapped at about 75K miles. NGKs come with something in the threads so you do not need anti-seeze.
Mike Miller, columnist for the Roundel, says to buy plugs from the dealer, what you get from a parts dealer are not the same. I do not believe that. It would be fraud for a supplier to stamp the same number on parts of different characteristics. Plugs are easy to replace but you have to take a bunch of CRAP off the car to get to them. The housing for the inside the car air filter is HUGE. It is not a terribly challenging job but be prepared for several hours of pulling things off and putting them back.

Yes NGK says no anti-seize but I put a very thin coat of copper based ant-seize and reduced the torque spec. The original plugs were in there so tight it was scary.
