Michelin performance tires are now unobtanium?!?
I need to replace my Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Back in 2018 it wasn't to hard to find those (America's tire, Costco, etc.).
Now I can only find Pilot Sport All Season 4. No thanks, I don't need all season tires. The replacement, Pilot Sport Cup 2, are NOT available anywhere, it seems. What is going on? Should I switch to Bridgestone, Continental? Suggestions welcome. UPDATE: Tirerack has them--but they are $357 ea (rear). Also marked as "special/closeout" and "discontinued" on America's Tire. I guess I have to switch brand. Last edited by germ; 05-13-2022 at 02:40 PM.. |

I don't know what tire size you are looking for. But if you're still using the stock rear size, I just bought a set of 4S rears for my 135i from Tirebuyer. I was hesitant with giving them a shot. But did some digging and found out they're actually the online retailer arm of one of the largest tire distributors in the US. So I decided to give them a shot.
I got the tires within a week. This was about a month and a half ago. I checked the date code and the tires were manufactured in February of this year. I also got a 10% off discount code that dropped the cost to $467.98 for the pair. Free shipping. Win win to me. |

zx10guy Thank you for the tip. I can have the tires shipped to the local installer for $260 ea (before taxes). This is the stock size, 245/35 18.
OTOH, Continental Xtreme Contact Sport, which gets good reviews, is $230 ea at America's Tires, minus 5% additional discount. My past experience with buying tires online (TireRack) is that the "local installer" isn't thrilled with just doing the installation and will charge more for it. Tough choice. |

I just picked up a set of PSS for my Mercedes without any delay. I personally would not buy a tire other than a Pilot Super Sport or Pilot Sport 4S if it were me. I pretty much think they are the best tires ever. If available, I prefer the PSS, but they have been being phased out for a long time now.

As for installers, I take my wheels and tires to my local BMW indie for installation. I've tried the big tire chains and am not satisfied with any of them with not screwing up my wheels. I also went with doing online because I have a vacation home in a state with no sales tax. So I save there too. |
