1M Production Will Be "Unlimited But Hard To Get"
BIMMERPOST NEWS "Unlimited But Hard To Get" - 1M Availability We bring an update on the ongoing saga surrounding 1M availability/production figures. Since the 1M was first announced, BMW USA had stated that the 1M will be available 'in limited quantities', which prompted rampant rumor and speculation. We have recently received some clarification from BMW North America on the matter. The official word from BMWNA currently on the 1M availability is that it will be "unlimited but hard to get." We can confirm that the reason for this is due to the production capacity at the Leipzig plant, which will be building three very popular cars - X1, 1-series Coupe and Convertible, and the 1M beginning this spring. BMW Leipzig plant simply can't build hundreds of cars per day and is limited by its production capacity. Here's the silver lining per BMWNA: There's no formal production limit on the 1M and BMW will try to build as many cars as the market demands. Some people will have to wait a few months to get their 1M, but if they can wait, there should be enough. Finally, there's no decision made yet if the 1-Series M Coupe will be produced beyond 2011. |

I read it as saying "even if there are 15,000 orders in 2011, they'll get fulfilled...one day." No cutoff.

The car doesn't cost enough to make it a high profit-limited production situation...

I work with a bunch of car enthusiests and most of them weren't aware of this car until I mentioned it, so demand will only grow once the magazines start reviewing these more extensively and more press gets out. That's when the limit will likely be below total demand.

I'm sure they'll consider adding a 3rd shift at the factory if these orders keep piling in. The longer people are made to wait, the more likelihood that a customer might lose interest and go somewhere else. We've already seen a few that were interested in the 1M jump ship to a different brand.

Besides the e9x M3 seems to be on it's way out as the new M lineup is being created. Us 1Addicts and 'small' car M enthusiasts are still a minority which is easy to lose sight of when frequenting these forums. That being said, if the 1m was the same price as the m3 coupe sedan and vert, I'd still choose the 1m over the m3. |

I believe that if sales do well they will continue to build it but I am just not certain because of the new laws coming in to effect...

I have been corresponding with the Leipzig factory about a tour of the factory. I also asked them IF I could take some side by side pictures of ALL THREE 1M colors. They said nein! I specifically asked them about limited production. I got no answer about that. They did tell me I am welcome to come for a visit of the factory. But they can not even garranty that I will see any 1M's being built - IF and when I come! WTF!?!?
IF these 1M's are selling like hotcakes... one would think the factory would be cranking them out day and night! I think the X1 will be getting the priority at the factory - and IF they can build a few 1M's fine. The time clock is ticking and I really think after Nov/Dec 2011 the 1M production will end. M3 production then will end a few months later. And by then BMW will be building X3M's to compete with the upcoming Audi Q5S and Q5RS. Dackel |

Every time when there is a hyper car to launch, we hear this all the time. I was told to put $20000 deposit and wait 2.5 years if I wanted a GTR and was told I needed to wait for nearly 3 years for an SLS AMG. Same similar story to the R8. Guess what, I always get phone calls from sales every shortly after visiting those dealership and telling me the vehicle I was looking for "suddenly" becomes available. LOL!

Next time I want to buy a car such as this one, I will not read blogs and forums everyday. I will only read "official" statements. Actually, I can't even say that because the official quote is a contradiction.
So, next time, having amassed my fortune, I will pay someone to acquire my unlimitedly limited car while I use my new-found free-time searching for porns. |

One of my primary questions here is: Will the production of the 1M end in Dec 2011? I think that's the key point to all that limitation stuff. We know it's only produced in Leipzig with a limited capacity. So how long will they keep up doing it?
Edit: Ohw, didn't read the last sentence about the production thoughts of 2011. Quote:
If production really will stop in Dec 2011 and we speak of 60 cars/month for the US market, there will be no more than 600 cars in the US. Not limited, but yes: limited |
