AWSOME! Did the samething to a 66 chevelle with 500 HP big block back in the day. The rear end was so light in those old cars you never felt and rarely heard the slipping on a sharp turn. Worked fantastic back then...

Had a chat to someone who races a 1M and was pretty against the idea. I didn't catch all of it but essentially because it is a squarish car, locking the diff will introduce massive understeer.

It apparently also messes with ABS

Thoughts?

Locking the diff always increases understeer, other things equal. It also makes it easier for the car to bust out into oversteer aggressively. You just have to adjust your driving style. Nice late apex, easy on the brakes, focus on getting the power down on exit. The car doesn't like to rotate off power so don't force it, just be patient there and you will be fine. You will need experience driving at the limit and losing control to safely handle a welded diff or it will catch you out whether by understeer or oversteer.

I dunno about the ABS, but you will want to remove the e-diff programming and might as well get all the ebd stuff out at the same time.

Did you code the e-diff out yourself or did you have help doing it? Any advice here on how to get this done?

Thread update: I'm still driving this car on a welded diff and nothing has broken. Does anyone else have a welded diff 135i yet? These cars have been cheap enough for the riff-raff for a while now.

I would love to do this, but I am curious about how difficult it is to code out the e-diff stuff.

Actually much easier than unbolting the driveshaft removing the diff welding it reinstalling it but with a floor of 1-2 std deviations more iq points. Don't worry a person with an IQ of 80 could probably do the first one so you only need to be a little above average to do the coding, it will just take effort.

You can find a thread on here called "removing electronic nannies" with a link to an external site with even more info. Between them all the things you need to code out are enumerated. READ THE WHOLE THING! Link: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1216642

To install the software needed to do the coding you can google "BMW standard tools" in combination with this site and other terms like install. It's not too hard to find.

If that's all too much trouble, don't fret, because there are people who do remote coding. In that case all you would need to do is give them specific information for what to code out which is all given in the nannies thread and linked page.

Every time I see this, someone who's owned the car since it has 1 mile and loved it for Joy, sheds a tear

Yeah I made my car way more badass almost for free so I can definitely understand why that would make someone who has trouble expressing a simple thought coherently cry. Wait, what?

Afternoon, guys just seen this thread! hope your still daily driving your 135i op!

Just want to say I have an E93 335i and a welded diff, its been welded nearly a year now. terrible for parking sounds like you've broken something as the wheels skip about, I put it down to rocking big 19 tiger claws and the car being a weighty barge.

Never had issues with a 200sx or mx5 never even noticed parking was bad hardly even skipped, but this thing is unreal lol just a word of warning, I still love having the diff welded it's just the funny looks you get and when I park at work its deffo not easy lol

keep slaying it!

I wonder if HTGs new diff controller works on the electronic stock diff and if so does it make this all pointless (but still awesome) now?
