Dragstrip Results!

Took my car to the dragstrip today for the first time

09 135i 94k miles AT (Alpina Flash). Engine mods are: Pure Stage 2's + FBO + PI + Fuel-It Stage 3 LPFP + NGK 5992's (Gapped to .022") + 100% E85 + MHD custom tune. Tires are Toyo R888's.

I was kind of expecting better times and trap speeds than what I ran especially for my mods, highest boost was 25psi. I launched from 2nd gear (about 2k rpm), I burned out before every run and didn't spin off the line. I felt that the transmission shifting was the most thing that could've slowed me down, I felt noticeable lags between shifts. Is it better to manually shift? If so, at what RPM should I do so next time. Also, my 60' times seemed to be pretty bad and high, do the 60' times affect trap speeds? or just ET?. Ill attach the time slip of my best run below (My car is on the left).

Please share your advice/recommendations/experiences

60ft times only affect ET IIRC. Trap speed & the delta between 1/8mi and 1/4mi trap speed is a better barometer of HP (anything >25 is a indication of good top end power, both NA and FI).

I dont have a 6AT so I cant offer tips but I'm sure other posters will chime in.

Do you have a dynosheet?

Good time but can definitely improve that 60'..get it to 1.9/1.8 and you'll run low-mid 11s.

60' is important because it sets the stage for the rest of your run. If you're spinning at the start, your ET will be garbage compared to what it would be if you weren't spinning.

Since you have mhd, try using the boost by gear limited to help with wheel spin in first and second gear.

Your trap is impressive and I'm going to say it's because you have an upgraded turbo holding power on the top-end.

Needs driver mod for sure.
You have something like $6,000 more into parts than I do, and I've run quicker (you're faster). Frankly I'd be pissed if I was you. But only at yourself and your driving style.

Is the track open any more this year?
If so, shift manually. First try a 6,000 rpm shift. then try 5,500 shift and last a 5,000. Providing the 60' are similar you should see stark differences in et's.
These cars are not meant for RPM. They make such broad TQ that you can shift almost anywhere before HP peak and get the same time. If you shift after HP peak you're loosing hundreds of lb/ft of oompf and times reflect this.
TQ = ET
HP = Trap speed

My sweetspot is about 5,250 rpm for shifts on stock turbos. I'd bet the Pures should be near 5,500. But absolutely not redline shifting.

Here is my best pass of the year:

He did fine. Just needs to learn the car a bit more.

OP, learn the power and for your car and shit once hp starts to drop off. Whether hats at 5500 or 6000, look at dyno charts to get an idea (get your car dynoed for an even better idea)

Ideally you'll want a sub 2.0 60'...1.8/1.9 is doable and will get you the times you are looking for. Your trap speed will be high as long as you're shifting properly..since your have upgraded turbos.

Here's a vid of my last run which was the 4th run, car misfired at the end so I didn't run anymore. In that video I ran my best 60' which was a 2.0 and I know that a lower time is possible.

I had Hoosier Drag Radials (which looked more like slicks) but I never put them on because
1. I was afraid of breaking my axles or something else
2. As you can see in that video I wasn't spinning so I didn't really need them

Your link isn't showing up..

But yea this was my first time taking my car to the track so Im still learning. Its not open anymore till Spring, also id need to dyno to see at which RPM the power starts to die out to know when to shift.

Would upgrading my trannies VB make the car shift faster? Also, getting a high stall TC help in launching? Seems like the only company that makes these parts is Level 10, how good are their products?

Trickcruiser is on a level10 VB only and runs 10's in a DD http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42975

The sluggishness might be the fluid/filter. Whens' the last time the trans was serviced?

And you really don't need to dyno. Just datalog and use a spreadsheet to graph speed vs time vs rpm.
