Auto climate control, I hate it, more than words can describe
I HATE automatic climate control, more than words can describe
when it's cold and I don't want to wear a jacket, this thing seems to have 2 settings, burn me, or cold air and freeze me is there any way to get this thing into dumb mode where it just blows the air temp you want, regardless of what the cabin temp sensor says? Lately I want to drive my jeep instead, because the heater just works, you set the temp and that's what it does

A/C compressor turns off completely at 40 degrees, but if you want to ensure you don't get it to kick on, just hit the button.
As for the bounce back-and-forth, that is a loooooooooong time bit with German cars and their hatred of ReCirculation. The car is trying to regulate the temp, and go back and forth, and do it with fresh and recirc air. No unit is perfect. Also, if you put any hot coffee or cold drink near the gauge, it will affect the thermometer and then change the system. I haven't noticed where it is in my 135, but in my Audi, it was right in the middle of the center panel so it would get the most accurate reading, but hot coffee right there near it would trigger the cool air. PLUS, if you don't like it automatic, then just turn it off. Auto climate is not permanently on.

I dont ever turn the full auto mode on
I set the temp to 80-85 and roll one window down to regulate the temp and keep it from burning my arms, ac is off, recirc is off, fan is set to half way anything less than 80 and it does not turn on at all and I freeze, or it turns on too much and it gets too hot I just want warm air blowing on me, I miss the mixer dial on my wifes x5, or my last m3

What I don't like is the angle of the vents. In my last car, I used to point the two driver facing ones so they'd blow right on my hands on the steering wheel. I tend to have cold extremities and that was just about perfect to make me feel toasty all over. But in the 1er, the one on the left of the steering wheel doesn't point in far enough. I end up alternating sitting on my hands (seat warmers) until the whole car warms up enough for me.

it turns on HOT, then cold then HOT, then cold, this is with the temp number set between 75 and 80, the computer regulates how hot it should be, it does not give me any way to set it to stay warm there's no way to set the air temp to warm and have it stay that way

mine blows hot air after a couple miles
and then the next hour of my drive I'm screwing around with the temp setting and how far my window is down to regulate the air temp the heater is blowing

If you are turning OFF the "automatic" mode, and your air is still alternating between hot and cold, then your system is not functioning properly, and you need to have it serviced.
My wife gets very cold, and so she will crank her side up to 85 and turn off auto, and believe me, it gets hot and stays hot. It doesn't alternate. I set mine to 72 and it blows cool and stays cool. There is no alternating when I shut off "auto". If yours still alternates, then Auto is not turning off, and your system is broken. On a digression, for anyone with a Vert, don't forget about "Top Down Ventilation Mode", in which the system changes all the air flow to handle the temp better when topless.

Your window being open may be messing with it too. There will be an inconsistant temp coming from the outside, hot or cold depending on the speed of the car, how far the window is open, and of course the weather.
I realize the window being down is a response to an issue, but it could be exacerbating the problem. But like others have said, it does sound like your system just may be FUBAR'd to begin with. |

Works very well for me. It blows cooler air from dash vents and warm air from foot well so it doesn't suffocate you with warm air. Now if you want it to warm up fast and set it to max temperature then of course it will burn you. To use it manually press the auto button and then use the temperature dial as a high or low setting. |

I tend to keep mine at 70 +/- 2 degrees depending on the outside temperature and sun. I prefer to drive without a jacket on, so even in the winter if I got the car in the garage I won't wear my coat, however when the car is outside for a while in the cold I'll have to wear it on short trips. All the same, I always wear short sleeves and I have no complaints about the temperature coming out. If I don't like the way it feels I turn it up or down a few degrees and it's fine. I never feel it fluctuating.

Same here. I put mine at 68 in auto and let it do it's thing. If I'm a little chilly, I bump it up to 72. It works great for me. I think the OP's car has something that isn't working properly. |

Funny, I put mine at 68 (both sides) and have been very comfortable with auto all winter long - I only touch it when I want the defroster.
You should take yours into the shop. |
