MPGs
The best I’ve done is 331 miles for 12.9 gals and avg. 28.5 mpg. on a hwy trip running around 70-75 mph. Wasn't trying for any fuel savings just cruz’n. It was last September and at the time of refuel the odometer was at 3,450 miles. I find that I generally get 26-27 hwy and 19-20 in town. I hope that helps.

I did an experiment so instead of zoom zoom zoom, I tried to drive a little more moderately. I improve the gas mileage from 21 mpg to 24.5 mpg doing my norml route. This is a high performance car so it is supposed to be fast for the fun but I just want to know what the gas mileage is like if it is driven like a slower car. I had driven a 328i loaner and I got 27 mpg so the 135i is not too bad at all. I got my answer so I can go back to my Zoom Zoom Zoom.

You were a Mazda driver before, right?
Yes, the gas tank is on the small side in the 1.

30.4 mpg
300 miles and then filled up at 1/4 tank exactly. what's the catch? 70-72 mph cruise control on the interstate. it's not easy. 125 miles @ 3/4 tank. when i hit 1/2 tank, i had 220 miles.

Anyway, BMW gives to small tank to all cars, perhaps fighting with weight. Mercedes and Infiniti give 20 gallons tanks as standard on all cars. I would prefer if BMW gives an option fuel tank size, 14 gallons for sporty driving, and 21 gallons for enthusiastic commuters.

I have been consistently getting 29 mpg highway, or 8.0 l/100 km. That, mind you, is achieved by setting cruise control at no more than 75 mph (120 km/h). Range is good for 410 miles (650 km) on most of my highway trips.
That said, the most I can get by going 60 mph (100 km/h) is 30.5 mpg, or 7.8 l/100 km. That's not a huge improvement for going a lot slower. I do a lot of commuting, so I have yet to burn a full tank in just city driving, but based on what I have done, I'm seeing about 19 mpg city, or 12.3 l/100 km. I think my car is still breaking in at 5,000 miles (8,000 km). So mileage still may improve, but I'm not expecting miracles here. Still and all, 19/29 mpg is pretty damn good for a car with V8 power. I used to have a 1970 Dodge Challenger 383 Magnum big block. That thing had 340 hp, got 10 mpg city, and no offense to Mopar fans, but the 135i stock spanks the Challenger's ass bigtime in pretty much ever category except rear legroom. |

Best on a long I got was 25.7mpg; I get mostly 21-23mpg daily driving. If I drive in DS that drops to about 18mpg.
31mpg cant be right surely? |

Maintaining a steady speed of 70 mph via cruise control on relatively flat terrain will net you close to 30 mpg on a broken-in 135i. I've done it. It ain't exactly fun driving, but if you need the range because you commute, then it's a necessity with today's fuel prices. As I said before, though, I can't really comment about city mileage. That's where I do all my fun driving, so I don't really care about mileage so much because I get to do so little of it during the week. |

The size of the fuel tank on our cars is maybe my least favorite feature. I fill up weekly whereas I can go two weeks in my Porsche. I think the crazy low fuel reminder makes me fill up way more often too. Instead of getting right down to empty, I now fill up as soon as the warning goes off.

Wow how are you guys getting such high numbers? I don't really have a heavy foot, maybe a bit spirited at times but the most I've ever gotten was 23mpg. I average around 20-23 city&highway mixed. Always a bit less than 300 miles a tank.

My last car was a 2007 Volkswagen GTI with a 2.0-litre turbo four-pot. I invested about $5000 in mods (ECU upgrade, CAI, and 3" catback exhaust). The result was 300 hp and 370 lb-ft at the crank, and nearly 35 mpg for highway cruising at 70 mph. Stock figures were 200 hp, 207 lb-ft and 31 mpg! Go figure... Point is, there were quite a few guys on all the GTI forums who were only getting 24 mpg on the highway from stock engines, and none of us could figure out why, taking into account driving habits. Identical cars from the same factory -- made from the same materials using the same build processes -- don't always give the same results. |

My car only gets around 25 mpg at 75mph on the highway last trip I made. That was before some minor mods, I'll have to try it again soon and then again after a tune.

Definitely worth tracking your consumption to find out, and yes re: your earlier post, the 135i has a very small gas tank. Some enthusiasts consider mileage to be a non-issue, but I suspect that's a track junkie perspective. For those using their 1 as a daily driver, the last thing you want is to be spending $600 a month or more on fuel costs.
On a side note, my 135i, at 19/29 mpg is besting the EPA ratings of 17/25 by quite a margin. I hear the EPA recently changed how they test, resulting in more pessimistic figures. In Canada, the office of Natural Resources uses testing procedures that are totally unrealistic and therefore come up with fuel economy numbers that no one will ever be able to achieve, no matter how much they hypermile. NRC, by the way, rates the 135i at 19.7 mpg city/30 mpg highway. I have found that it's safe to assume that in real world driving, a car (any car) will achieve somewhere between EPA and NRC ratings. This certainly seems to be the case for the 135i, anyways. |

i dont get it! how? I guess its cuz I do mostly city driving..short distances without getting on the highway.... but i usually get around 50 miles per each 1/4 tank and hardly ever, EVER, get 200+ miles per tank and over 16mpg on average (unless I go on a roadtrip or something). Im at the pump like every 4 friggin days!

On a roadtrip from LI to Ohio I was doing about 70 with the top down. I got 400 miles out of my tank on a stint across I-80. If I can do that, you have no trouble what-so-ever.
