"2-series" Names registered by BMW.....
Well heres what BMW has registered in terms of 2-series car names so far:
216i 220i 225i 218d 220d M1 M2 So it looks like the 2-series name is probably for real with a strong european launch expected... The US would probably see the 225i for sure and who knows if they would decide to up the ante and go with a 230i (or more) later on as they did with the 120i/125i->130i |

Well this might be interesting. I don't know where you got your list, but I just searched the US PTO site. I didn't see any of the number designations, but it looks like "Z2" was registered . . . on March 30 2006:

Interesting find bmwfreak. Based on those that means they plan to make a 225i with the current 3-series 325i engine and then the next jump would be an M3 (say with the current M3 engine). Wouldn't that be too big of a gap in horsepower #'s?
