People with DCT and thinking about upgrade turbo
I been playing with an idea upgrade the turbo on my N55 but just found out clutch will cost as much as upgrade turbo. Any other solution yet?

From what I researched
That seems to be the normal for the upgrades clutches on DCT equipped cars. It sucks but it is what it is ya know? I'd do it...the torque would rip up the tranny rather fast

Shiv is under the impression the DCT actually holds more torque that had previously been thought. But to be sure, it can’t hold the type of torque that 6AT or MT can hold. As of now, that’s the only option available. Anything short of upgraded turbos DCT should be able to deal with, esp. with the N55 stock frames tapped out at around 400whp and not much more torque.

Sell it and get a manual. I've heard of the dcts in the 335is slipping bad just with fbo +e85. Not worth blowing the trans or upgrading it when you could have a manual trans with an aftermarket clutch hold 600-700 ft/lbs at less than 1/5 the price.

i don't know why they said the clutches can handle 750 torque, did they test it on 335i with 700 rwhp? i don't think, they just put any number to attract the stupid buyer, also the software of the dct is very important to upgrade

I wouldn't trust those SSP clutches. I've only seen one person claim to have them working and multiple other people have completely broken their DCT trying to use them.
I think the DCT should be fine with a tune, especially if the power band moves up the rev range and we aren't getting peak torque just off idle. But we just have to wait and see. |

If you're too broke to change cars you might want to think long and hard about doing a turbo swap...
(I'm also a DCT owner)

I think all this is a little preemptive. There's no turbo upgrade for the N55 yet. RB is working on it but it still seems a little far out.

Yep, following Vargas's progress with keen interest. 550whp from a stock frame turbo using stock manifold and normal supporting hardware sounds good to me.
