Is there a Dyno/Quarter mile thread
On 1addicts? I've been looking for 1 series stage 1 MHD dyno's and they seem to be few and far between. I've also read (in the multiple threads I've searched) that MHD stage one makes more power on the 3 series with an N55, is this true? If so, why? I've seen some posts by the e90 guys putting down 350-360whp with just stage 1+.
I'm currently on stage 1 with a berk street axle back, my car does not feel like a 360whp car, that's a ton of power, like Coyote 5.0 power, and those guys run low 12's stock. Most 1/4 mile slips I've seen of MHD guys are high 12's (I know there are other factors, but 8/10ths is a big difference). I feel like I'm more around 310whp. Is there a thread I'm missing? I've done quite a bit of searching. |

can't answer your question, but will tell you that as an ex owner of a coyote mustang, they DO NOT run low 12's out of the box. Mine (6 speed manual) ran a best of 12.85 @ 113mph. If you put on drag radials, that got you to 12.7 at the same mph. To run low 12s, you needed a tune, exhaust and an intake manifold from a boss 302

Can you link the threads that you found saying the 3 series makes more power than the 1 series on MHD stage 1? I just flashed MHD stage 1 this weekend and there was no option for 1 vs 3 series so idk why the tune would be any different...

I would say that a good driver, basic tune and good tires on a 135i will keep up with a stock 5.0 Mustang at least to the quarter mile. It also depends on which gears the Mustang has. I believe stock is 3.31, but the track/brembo package has 3.73 gears which is a good bit snappy off the line. I think it's called the performance package now. |

I'll never understand the appeal or drag racing, especially in BMWs.

The appeal of 1/4 mile racing is that when researching power and modifications, it is the most accurate representation of what your mods have done for your car. Trap speeds will tell you more than any dyno.

So I guess we don't have any sort of Dyno database here. That seems like it could be a useful thread, one that tracks 1/4 mile times/dynos with stated modification levels. It's pretty difficult to track down a n55 MHD stage 1 dyno.

I think this thread has been misconstrued, I'm not trying to beat a coyote mustang, just mentioned it as a contemporary. I think we would all benefit from a good dyno/1/4 mile sticky thread so people can actually see what mods do what and we won't need 100 threads of "How much power will xxxx add to my car"

How are you launching these cars from a dig? I can’t do any better than a 2.6 60ft.

What he said. My stockish car can pull away from any stock s197 and s550 GT from the top of 3rd gear onward and is even with a stock challenger SRT 392 in Mexico. I wouldn’t race any of those cars from a dig though. |

I get that, but this is a very mod heavy forum. I'm sort of surprised how many people tune but just stop at a butt dyno to confirm any possible improvements. Dynos don't only apply to drag racers. And I'm sure there are quite a few n55 equipped cars hitting the drag strip, this platform (and the n54) are really catching on in the "tuner" scene, likely because of people like AdamLz and a few others on YouTube.

Some years ago I had a modded Mustang of mine dyno tested a couple of times. The shop that did it had me sign a release of liability form. I understand it's to protect them and probably standard procedure, but damn, if it didn't have me a little worried that they were going to blow up my car or something. lol

Even on the 5" I'm still running high IAT's. Mostly due to sitting and heat soaking in the staging lanes.
I actually get faster doing hot laps because of the moving air. The fan running isn't enough. My 11.48 was preceded by a 11.50, 11.51, 11.55. The only change during that time was I removed the floormats, trunk mat, my tools and the lower part of the rear seat ... maybe 50# in total. There was maybe an hours time from first to last run. When I drag on Wednesday nights it's the same story. My fastest run will be my first. I drive 2hrs to get to the track and am on track within 15 min of getting there. The IATs are cooler because of all the air that's been going over it. From there it's generally downhill. I'll be switching to the 7.5 race this year in hopes it helps. I'm chasing 10's on stock turbos reliably/consistently. |
