Phenomenal race. This is what I've been missing. Thanks Benz for allowing this and thanks Lewis and Nico for not forcing the team to shut it down. F1 is back.

Even if RBR find their way back it looks like Ricciardo is slightly faster than Vettel so the chance is good for fire works even if this happens.

A fantastic race, but the director of the F1 feed should be fired. To spend so much time of the last few laps watching a procession of cars in 4th thru' 9th, (even though they were all competitive), when Lewis was fighting off a guy in a comparable car who could use the DRS AND had the 'Soft' tyre, was disgraceful. We should have seen the battle for the lead from the time the Safety Car pulled in with flashes of the race going on behind Hamilton and Rosberg. As it is I feel we didn't get to see much of an absolutely epic drive from Lewis holding off Nico.

and let's all give credit where credit is due - to the man we can count on to throw a monkey wrench into the works at any moment - the master of mayhem - Maldonado

It's starting to look like the year Brawn GP took it all. Ross Brawn is smiling somewhere right now...

It's been said before but bears repeating: the driver is a small part of the race equation as Vettel's mid-pack finish illustrates.

DRic is set for a phenomenal year
And I'm a Mercedes fan, glad they're doing well this year

Keep in mind Vettel was having issues with the car towards the end. Something about losing power.

Great race today!

Did anyone see the feature they did on the qualy show (SkyF1) about the Merc engine? Separating the hot side and cold side of the turbo... Brilliant!!!

Does the new fuel rule of 100 liters of fuel mean the cars are loaded with 100 liters max? I ask because I've read and heard about the rule being limited to 100 liters per hour so I'm wondering which it is.

With the fuel being monitored and limited, and the RB thang happening, I'm thinking they are limiting the fuel flow rates to 100 liters per hour?

If the rule was simply that the cars can only hold 100 liters of fuel, then why monitor and limit the fuel flow?
The way I understand it is they are allowed 100 liters max from lights out to checkered flag; and they are also flow limited as well to prevent teams from holding out all race and then turning up the wick at the end.

The reason they can run longer than an hour is due to the hybrid unit supplementing the engine.

Did you see how pissed the President of Ferrari was. He left the moment Raikkonen said he was down on power and couldn't keep pace with the Force India Cars. Heads might roll after this race.

ONLY 5 place grid penalty??? Where as Riccairdo served a 10 place for a small higgup on pitstop???!!! WTF

http://en.espnf1.com/bahrain/motorsp...tml?CMP=chrome

Quote:
Pastor Maldonado has been handed a double punishment for his collision with Esteban Gutierrez on lap 41 in Bahrain.

Maldonado had just left the pits when he dived down the inside of the Sauber, launching Gutierrez into a terrifying spin which ultimately brought out the safety car. Maldonado served a ten-second stop/go penalty during the race, and has now been slapped with a five-place grid penalty for the Chinese Grand Prix and had three penalty points added to his licence.

Jules Bianchi has also had two penalty points added to his licence for his contact with Adrian Sutil which left them both with punctures in the early stages. This means Bianchi has now collected four penalty points from the opening three races.

Maldonado got the following:
  1. 10 sec drive through Penalty, served in the race
  2. 5 grid spot Penalty for the next race
  3. 3 penalty points against his Super Licence

He deserves what he got but I bet if he was running the 2013 nose he would have just t-bone Esteban instead of a punting him.

Just what I was saying. If Nico and Lewis are paying attention, they'll rack up as many points now as they can before the other teams catch up.

I got a kick out of Gutierrez right after the wreck. "What the hell was that?"

But one unsafe release penalty:
- 10 second stop and go penalty
- 10 place grid penalty

Compare to causing a severe collision. Due to his own clumsiness.
- 10 second stop and go penalty.
- 5 place grid penalty.
- 3 points on his super license.

I feel a 10 place grid penalty is more appropriate. Just my opinion.

Three races done and I'm thinking if the lower nose is really safer design?
We've seen two collisions causing cars being lift up or flipped over.
- Kobayashi rear-ended Massa
- Maldonado flipped Gutierrez

If the side impact protection and resistant to impact are to made safer. We can have higher nose and have to structures collide and take all the energy. Instead of transferring the energy into sending another car up-side-down or dive/lift.

What a great race !!! I've watched it 3 times already ! I still miss the old format of the post race interview. It just seems awkward.

I agree, bring back the old format of post race interviews. It's a highlight and deserves the old more professional format.

It's not just me who thinks that. In fact a few years ago they were developing technology to entirely remove the driver as people in the industry were thinking that the driver was holding back the cars potential.

I didn't say it was all his car, but keep laughing while he struggles for points

Riccardo certainly seems to make that RB look pretty good.
If he had his Aus points he would be 3rd in the DWC.
Early days though.

I watched the race and the crash, and it didn't look to me like the nose of Maldonado's car had anything to do with the flip. It looked to me like the tires touched, causing the flip.

I do think though that the low noses are more prone to lifting the cars in crashes

The cars are more difficult to drive this year because of the immense torque. Rumors of Red Bull using some sort of traction control last year, don't seem to be surfacing this year. Ricciardo is currently out driving Vettel. Will it last, not sure.

Yeah I think it was tire to tire contact as well.
