Loss of BMW Assist

So, I guess all the Canadians now have lost their BMW Assist, as the 2G network got turned off Jan 1st.

This pisses me off, used the "send location to car" function ALL the time. Was also nice being able to remote lock/unlock the car. Also because my warranty ran out only 6 months before the network was shut down.

Anybody in Canada have any luck getting the updated (with LTE) Combox done?

I'm going in for service next week I will see what they have to say about it.
I still have a couple of years of certified series warranty as I purchased it used.

The service adviser had know idea what i was talking about,he wasn't aware of any problems with the system .
Evidently I no longer have "assist" as the subscription does not carry on into the certified warranty
On a brighter note I now have a new air bag

I just paid for a $199 subscription this April. Will the stolen vehicle services still work or did the dealer just rob me blind?

Next time you are in the car, hit the SOS button and see if it works. If it is a Canadian 1er, not likely.

You can also check in the iDrive to see what services are currently available.

Apparently not. When I spoke to the service advisor, he had no idea what I was talking about. Although, local dealer just left me a message to give them a call regarding the issue. We will see.

Just to keep thread updated.

Was talking to my local dealer, Otto's BMW, apparently they have not run into this yet. Guess nobody keeps their BMW Assist subscription going?

They are going to call BMW Canada and get back to me in a couple days to see what they will offer.

Fingers crossed.

I would go back to your dealer and ask about the combox update.

The more people that ask, maybe the more likely BMW Canada will actually do something about this.
