I know this is the 1M, but why does everything "official" say M1

I know I am not alone on this. Myself and several others have received their state titles citing ownership of their 2011 "M1" or "M1C" like me. They have even received documents from BMW noting it as M1. Is this just some stupid mistake or does anyone know of a reasoning behind this?

Its a bit confusing when everyone/everything comes out saying 1M and BMW not declaring it the M1 for whatever reason, but all of this legal documentation says otherwise lol.

Just something I felt like bringing up to start the weekend

Frankly, I like people calling M1 more than 1M 

I agree it sounds/fits much better. I am waiting for someone to jump on here about the old M1 race car which is legendary but still, why BMW! lol

Because the BMW M Division wanted to emphasize that car enthusiasts would be longing for this car: 1M is phonetically "wann'em!". Needless to say BMW likes that kind of phonetic jokes, just to tease their colleagues at Audi. Admitted: driving a "wann'em" sounds more sexy than driving an "ass three" or an "our ass three assback".

The project title "1 Hell of 'n ///M" (something with a Pyrat in an orange car or so) didn't make it in the end. BMW bit the bullet and went for the self-explanatory "1 Series M Coup" moniker.

Funny you said that. I was checking availability of plates "WON@M" or "ONE@EHM" etc. earlier as 1M was obviously long gone and "E82@M" just comes off as boring to me!

Time to get creative

Dammit ... now I 'wanna' to leave work early and go for a drive!

Funny thing is, on all my German papers (registration/insurance/et all) during ED it was listed as "M1".

My monthly dealer e-newsletter states "M1". In fact guys in the service dept call it that.

And most people that approach me and ask me whether it is an "M1".

Depending on how much time I have (or don't), I set the record straight
