The 4.7 time was 0-62! The Europeans measure 0-100 Kilometers per hour which is 0-62. This means that the 0-60 time is about 4.5 which lines up perfectly with what Car and Driver got in their test of the 1M. I believe car and driver got 0-60 in 4.3-4.5 for a manual M3. The 3.9 number you are referring to is for automatics using launch control. The autos shift faster and launch control helps providing you read the manual and have enough time and desire to mess around with it at a stop light. Personally, I think launch control is a crock that is really throwing times off. Why even drive if the the car is doing it for you, take a fast bus IMO. Why buy paddles and all that just to let the car do it for you...no glory in that.

Finally, I am convinced that if there is a truly old school M3 guy out there, not the new generation fluffy app-loving, heated seat, folding mirror, NAV-so-the-can-find-a-nearby-tofu-bar so called M3 guys with a stripped out M3 with no options, might have an even quicker time. I am not sure how much weight all this crap adds, especiall power seats, mirrors, nav, handles, extra wiring etc but It's probably 80-100 lbs. Also, everyone orders the optional 19s nowadays because they are "cool" but they weigh more and it takes a bit to get them rolling in an acceleration blast. I wish there is one of these men out there with such a car tha could post their acceleration times and cornering stats.

Pure sports car....absolutely no! 4 seats, no purpose-built design, no sports car. 1M is really great car in it's class especially hearing the price, but it's never ever "pure sports car".

There is also a new review in the German "sport auto" magazine. - http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=520618

They tested the 1M on the Hockenheim track. It was faster than the E92 M3, Audi TT RS, Audi RS5 and also Porsche Cayman S with manual gearbox. With double clutch the Cayman S was 0,2 s faster than the 1M.

I'm convinced ALL the tests are biased. One day x is faster than y and the next day y is faster than x. Bottom line 1M

Bottom line 1M and M3 are both awesome machines that people either want or want to beat...

but I suppose a Porsche Cayman S is a pure sports car? Or is the GT3 RS the only pure sports car?

Vague terms can be misconstrued in many many ways, so why not pay attention to something quantitative, something descriptive that actually tells the story, or if so skeptical or so negative about the car just wait for it to come out?

So a Porsche Turbo is not a pure sportscar? (4 seats, same basic body as all other 911 models)
I think you're confusing sports car with race car or super car.

No, I'm not sceptic about the car at all, instead, very eagerly look forward to test it. I'm just fed up overexcited terms used to tell about it. You'r right, Cayman, Boxster and GT3 are pure sport cars. But no Panamera, M5, M3 (except GTS), F California or AM DB9. 911 Turbo is a bit difficult since it's not really 4-seater...debate if a certain car is a GT or sport car never ends, but I would never say 4-seater, civil-derived machine is "pure sports car". We have opinions, this is just one... :-)

I think the 1M is a great car and really exciting in its price range. For those who don't want an M3 or don't want to pay for one, it is a great option. The only thing I can't get over is the look. IMO, it isn't the best looking car out there... not bad... just not my cup of tea. Having said that, I still think it is an awesome price/performance value.

Wait 'till you see it in person. Much more aggressive then the 135. FYI...I spotted one at Autoport in Halifax in the lot beside the main office building. May still be there if you are in the area.

Looks are subjective though...to each their own.

It definitely looks very aggressive in real life. I sat in the 1M at the Chicago autoshow. Not as clean looking as an M3 but it does look better than the 135i. The wheel fitment is flush with the bumper which looks very nice.

That' s why I bought one instead of an M3.

(and I'm a collector of BMW's).

I think "pure sports car" is Relative to whom you talk to. Some believe a sports car should look sporty and have ONLY two seats. Others believe a sports car can be a 2 seater with 2 smaller seats in the back, and a great track performer. There are some Porsches that are 2 seats with 2 smaller seats for children and most still consider it a sports car. Some older Ferrari's and Jaguars to name a few.... Like i mentioned, I think its relative...

Cant wait to see real world dynos. Im somewhat skeptical, I havent seen a tuned N54 'pull strong' all the way to 7K. Thinking thats a pretty optimistic opinion.

Mine is going to the dyno within 3-4 weeks of delivery. It should be interesting to see since the M engineers hinted the numbers were conservative. Since the 300hp/300tq version is said to dyno higher than those numbers I'm curious to see what the 1M does.

Fantastic work by Dr. Kay Segler and his M team. It would be nice to know that he's staying on at M, although I hope he does well at Mini.

in my 335i 4.7 all day with g-tech, i believe the magazines either have more accurate equipment and do averages..im sure on my g-teck the 1m will do in the 4.2 area and thats closer to a well tuned n-54.
