Best source for replacement key fob?
I’m in the USA. Hoping to pay less that the stealership price of over $400 for a replacement key fob + blade.
Looks like BimmerTech might be the best source? Even for a non CA car like mine, it’s still over $300. Any other sources folks recommend?

Alas my spare is AWOL. We know it’s somewhere in the house because the wife was able to get inside but then it went missing. It will no doubt turn up in a drawer or closet at some point. But having only one key is problematic.

FWIW, my (east coast) dealership quoted me $260 (non-CA). My indy told me he can do it cheaper. I never did replace it. Mine is also lost in the house somewhere (unless if fell off my desk into the garbage can).

Hi Folks,
I also paid about $230 for my second key from the dealer. And you will probably find your old key within minutes of coming home with your new one. Cheers! Craig |

I had to purchase a replacement fob for a previous 328 and I used a place called "key harbor". Very good service and lower in price than the dealer. You'll need to supply the VIN and ownership of the car, but you should receive the fob coded to your car once you receive it.

Stealership quoted 300 plus programming and tax.
I will check out Key Harbor.

Looks like eEUROparts.com may be a reasonably priced source. Sure appears to include everything for 25% less than the normal numbers.

Thanks. Already ordered one otherwise that would be interesting. But it seems like it might not work.

Yeah, I only paid 200 for a replacement key from the dealer, can't believe how much dealers are overcharging.

Depends on which keys you have. Standard key is $200-$250. Comfort Access key is closer to $400 from what I understand.

From my research, you can purchase a key fob on ebay fairly cheaply...$20-$30. Then you need it programmed to the CAS. My 2011 uses CAS 4+, so you need to find someone that can program a CAS4+ fob. Cheapest programmer (hardware) that can do the job was like $360, as the AK90 I am more familiar with will not do CAS4+. Checking locally, in Chicago, I found a person, and he quoted me $200 to program, but would do a 2nd additional one for $10.
So bottom line, a dealer that charges $200 is not a bad deal comparatively speaking. |
