Items that are different in the 1 from other BMW's

I washed and waxed the car this weekend and started making mental notes of items that are just different from my recent BMW's.

- No fresh air intake in the hood.
- No door guards. (This I noticed because on my E46 getting the wax out was a pain)
- Hoffmeister kink still there...yeah
- No seat release for the passenger side from the drivers side. In the E46 coupe there were seat back releases on both sides of the passenger seat.
- No storage spot below the radio area..a la E46.
- Practically non-existent tool kit. This really peeved me since I was always bragging to everyone about this.
- Underside of car almost completely covered in felt like material.
- Oil filler cap has a tether...cool.

- One really annoying item is that the key fob has very limited range. With the previous keys you could hold it against your chin and triple the range.

Any way, that's what I remember so far this morning.

Not to sound too ignorant but what's "Hofmeister Kink". I'm taking it that's it's not a German Shiza dvd. (Shiza is probably spelled wrong, but I stole that line from Eric Cartman on South Park)

You're not ignorant. I didn't know either. Had to google it a little while ago:

The spelling for the word would be Scheiße but if you want to use all american characters Scheisse....meaning $hit in german.

The Hofmeister Kink goes way back in the BMW model lineup from the early 1960s, and has been adopted my many other (non-BMW) designers since. Here is the old 3.0; one of my favorite classic BMWs.

So...what is the "chin trick"?

Pressing the metal part of the remote key to your chin. It uses your head/body to maximize range...

I just place my index finger on the metal as I press the buttons with the thumb.

There's no dial between the center air vents to control upper body temperature(a-la E46, E39, ect). It's the first modern Bimmer I know of that doesn't have it. Even the E60 5er have the temp control in the iDrive menu.

Somewhere in these responses a 'plate-in-the-head' joke waits to be freed.

Limited range for the FOB is not a bad thing for those who optioned CA. The other day, while showing-off CA, the limited range of the FOB was readily displayed as close proximity was required for it to work. Whether the FOB functions traditionally, at a distance, I couldn't say, haven't had need to try it in that manner.
