Did Breyton came out to address why the rims that cracked did so? That's really bad publicity if they just ignored the high profile failures.

In contrast, look at Forgestar. They had a fiasco with the 1200 vs 1500 ratings. At least they came out to explain and introduced corrective measures. What is the position of Breyton on the cracked rims?

I don't think Breyton has said anything.. but here's a bunch of relevant threads. I'm not sure how many you've seen already. And I don't know if you've heard my personal story, in which I hopped a curb at highway speed, chipped two wheels, bent one, and had NO cracks in the wheels. I think they are high quality. People have bent and cracked many rims, from cheap to expensive. I think they are higher quality than VMR wheels, personally..

And I think Gill@TireRack.com's recommendation is glowing:

Quote:
I'd recommend them to my mom if she had any interest in that sort of thing.
Also, I could only really find two or three "horror stories" about the wheels, and they're included below. Most seem to have been met with positive results..

I have had tons of wheels cheaper than these. None have ever cracked like this. And I never hit anything that made me think I cracked 3 out of 4 wheels. I know others had the same issues. I personally would not recommend them.

I hope Gill's mom doesn't track her car. 0_o

Holy crap!!! When/how did you notice this? I assume you were riding around for months just accumulating more cracks as time went on. I definitely haven't noticed any on my wheels, when did you buy them? I'm wondering if it truly was one bad batch or it's hit or miss... I always felt like Breyton made great wheels so I'd hope this is one bad, isolated batch...

Like I said, others have had the same issue. I bought mine in June of 2009 if I remember correctly. I found the cracks when I took my car to get a nail removed and patched one day. The techs showed me all of the cracks. They are extremely hard to see unless you look hard and clear the brake dust/dirt off first.

Damn Bro, you were rolling literally on a death bed with these Cracks all over the Rims. i was really contemplating getting these Breyton's but as for now am gonna Stick to the OEM's even though they are heavier but IMO there is no wheel out there that has the reliability of the OEM product.

Where you on RFT's when you had this mess ??

Thanks

Same thing happened to my OEM wheels, BMW would not replace them. I hope my 1Ms without the runflats provide more protection.

Mine are equipped with non RFT's. Up to now, no problems. Perhaps another reason to dump those RFT's.

Very fragile. The matt gray seems to be a very thin layer with a kind of varnish on top. Also impossible to find the exact color for retouching if necessary. Breyton Germany don't want to give the color code.

I have to say that the paint on my breytons held up better than the paint on my Advans.

Would love these wheels, but apparently tire rack cant ship to australia, and i cant find anywhere in Australia that sells them. And even if somewhere did they would be like 1million dollars a rim based on us aussies getting raped price wise on everything.

My matte gray's now have 25,000 miles on them with no quality issues and only a couple small chips. The finish has been extremely durable. I love how easy these are to clean also.

Do you wax them ( what product?), because the matte has become a bit shiny. I prefer that above the original matte as it makes cleaning much easier.

Actually that's just some tire shine. Makes the wheels look nice too, sort of richens the matte finish. I have never waxed them or anything though. I was looking closely at the wheels today - literally only 3 tiny chips that I could find total, among the 4 wheels. They really do hold up very, very well!

Mine are waxed 2 times a year with Poor Boys wheel sealant, PCW Wheel cream wax or Rim Wax (Smartwax), and they have now a kind of satin look who helps them clean more easily.

I like the weight and looks of these wheels but 7.5/8.5 width??? Need to produce a 9.5 for the rear.
