I have been a lurker for many years but glad to be officially part of this amazing 1M world. A few years back i was fortunate enough to have gotten the oppurtunity to drive a very well modified 1M ( at the time i still had my fbo E92, 335 , N54 , DCT ) and couldnt understand how something so very similar was so very different. It took me a couple of years of hunting and saving, but on the 31st of December 2018 i was presented with the opportunity to purchase a very clean, relatively unmolested example...

Beautiful. So I have two 1M's , both VO. I have one with PFF (car is perfect) with about 3900 miles. Want to trade? I would love a white one.

Ack. What a beautiful car. I wish I was at a different point in my financial life currently. Haha. But I needed a new daily AND a toy car AND the wife needs a new rig.

I feel like by the time I'm in the market for one, they'll be more than a clean NSX...and I'll end up with the Honda instead. Haha.

I wish that were at all possible considering how low mileage your car is...only problem is, is that I am all the way in sunny, South Africa

Why not consider wrapping the other car that doesnt have th PFF on? It will protect the paint thats currently on there and also satisfy your itch to have a White 1M.....I wouldve done that Onyx/Pearl white if it had to really be white, otherwise I wouldve done in that Frozen/Aventador Grey

Honestly, it took me about 3yrs to save up and also to find a relatively clean and unmolested one.... I know this sounds corny, but it was a dream come true the day I got to own this car.

On collection of the car, I had the paintwork corrected and sealed off with some gTechniq ceramic coat on the paintwork ,the calipers, barrels and face of the wheels , exhaust tips and also did the whole interior to safeguard and protect , especially those alcantara pieces

When I bought the car from my cousin he made me aware that the previous owner had left the oem cat's and suspension at a bmw dealer and obviously they either scrapped them or threw them away.....it took me a fair bit of trolling, but i managed to find a wrecked 1M clone and purchased a complete but very well used Oem suspension kit. I honestly havent cleaned them up, but i really wanted to be able to go back to "OEM" as I feel the market is more inclined to pay for a well maintained and "stock" 1M, as opposed to one that has been modded, but this is merely my opinion and hence why I went down this path

Ah, the topic of OEM vs Mod. Two completely separate camps with completely different users. For me, I only mod the car with easy to restore cosmetic changes, i.e. carbon fiber spoiler, front fender vent overlay tape, and maybe black front grills. Always keep original parts. On the other hand, there are many, perhaps most of the 1M owners that upgrade brakes, down pipes, suspension, seats etc... and make the care more "personal" for them. Both approaches are just fine, however if you have an eye on ever selling the car, then OEM will always command a higher price due to the collector aspect and appeal of this vehicle. This chain of thought also applies to original paperwork, original tire inflation kit (even after it expires, which for most of us was in 2015), fuse kits, window stickers etc. Most important is the paint. The cars have a propensity for road rash on the front of the rear wheel fenders, and on the trim piece under the doors. PPF is a super easy and effective remedy, once you have a paint restoration done. Highly recommended. Imagine the simple add: BMW 1M, White, 33K miles, OEM, Concourse condition. Nothing more need be said.

Thank you so much for this very insightful post. Iv been put off from ppf, because i paid a small fortune to have 3M "VPS" applied to my AW E92 N54 and it went yellow after only a couple of months. I was naive and wasnt aware that the ppf needed special attention to keep the ppf soft to prevent it from yellowing. I guess I also jumped the gun on having this car ceramic coated after the paint was corrected. In my defense, i was quoted a ridicolous amount of almost R20000 or very close to $1400 to do the front of my car in Xpel Ultimate , this was after i had spent $500 , R7500 on ceramic coating the interior and exterior.

Iv been down the modded route with my E92, I had almost every conceivable mod fitted to that car except for an LSD and big turbos and i didnt want to go down that route again. I still have a plethora of both cosmetic and performance mods in my garage. I am a firm believer in never selling your OEM parts, as most people only want to pay you "book value" for your car the day you sell, so using that as my mantra, its easier to return a car back to stock and sell off the aftermarket parts and even if you only make a few dollars back, it would still be more then getting only the book value.

And lastly, I dont eat/drink/smoke in any of my cars !

A few weeks back i ordered the BMS External PCV/Vacuum OCC kit. I wanted to tackle a few things at the same, so ended up doing what I call operation 1M this weekend

List of things I had set out to get done
1) Install my old ER charge pipe that i used on my E92 N54
2) Convert my Tial BOV to quick connect fittings
3) Install External PCV
4) Diy Intake valve clean
5) Replace front brake caliper retaining clips
6) Replace damage jack mounting cups
7) Install BMS CDV
8) Install BMS Clutch stop


This was all the items I intended on fitting

(Apologies in advance for the many posts, i wanted to do a write up and then post pics as I went along, but i couldnt figure out how to upload all the pics and do a write up in between , I am based in South Africa, so not increasing my post count for the sake of posting inorder to sell anything...just putting it out there)

These are pictures of the intake valves, mileage is +-38250km at the moment... As with my other n54 which I also Diy'd carbon clean, cylinders 5/6 had the most build up.

Its quite hard to take pics inside the cylinder, so please dont mind some of the poor quality pics, but they should be able to give you a good indication of the state of the valves.
