Maintance Walnut Trim & Aluminum Trim?
Between Burl Walnut Trim & Glacier Aluminum which is the easiest trim to maintain?
Meaning which shows scuffs the least, doesnt scratch as easily etc. Like to get some imput from you guys, see how your trim has held up. |

I've got the Glacier Aluminium and it doesn't really show anything. No dust, dirt, fingerprints--nothing. And it has a raised texture to it that gives it a cool 3D look and makes it durable to wipe down and clean. No regrets on my trim choice, but then again, wood trim doesn't say sporty to me the same way aluminium trim does IMHO.

I got the gray poplar trim, but I do like that CF kit. I may go that route.

Certainly more a matter of taste than maintenance.
I personally prefer the warmth of the wood trim. The aluminum makes my fillings ache. I also think the carbon fiber is more a material favored by the younger set. Regardless the finish on the wood trim is easy to maintain. You'll have to live with either choice for a while, so go with the one that visually satisfies you. Regards, Alex

I've never had to clean my gray popular trim because I saw dirt. I just do it because I should.

True, but they're only noticeable in direct sunlight (to me at least). Mine were from the original dealer "detail," and I was able to polish most of them out.
I still think the grey poplar is the best looking trim with all of the interiors except the black and maybe coral (I would get glacier with those). I would agree that the maintenance considerations aren't a big enough deal to not get the trim choice that you think looks the best. |

What polish did you use? My 135i has gray poplar, and I'm worried the dealer 'prep' will create what I don't want. I told my sales guy to NOT let them run my 135i through anything auto washer, as they have one. I said ONLY handwash, or I will do it at home. And, NO waxing, NO polishing, and absolutely NO BUFFING, and NO tire shine. He said they will only hand wash, and will only use wax on the areas that will need to be cleaned to remove the factory protection residue. I know, I get weird about this, but I want to be the one who puts the first scratches and flaws into my car. |

Jeez, the question is a no brainer. Aluminum won't scratch as easily as wood trim. That said, if you wear a giant watch and scrape it against the wood trimmed center console, aluminum will still scratch. All you need to clean any trim is warm, soapy water, followed by some clean water to rinse off the residue. Don't scratch your stuff up.
