MFactory LSD Recall

Without us having the exact details, why automatically come to a definite conclusion? And you are 100% sure the warranty work was done directly by MFactory/Synchrotech?

If you are 100% certain (like your post implies), please could you PM me the details as I would like to investigate further.

If you are not 100% certain, then why imply? All that does is create confusion

Been putting this off since the car isn't driven much these days. Going to check into it. Scary shit, that rear diff cover almost cracked all the way through!

I just noticed this thread. I purchased a helical complete pumpkin part number MF-TRS-05E9230 on 6/17/16. The recalled part number is MF-TRS-05E92, not sure what the 30 means on the end of my part number.

What is the procedure to test the unit?

If you purchased it in June 2016, you should be fine. The "30" means you have the 3.08 ratio pumpkin.

If on the driveway, initial signs would be hesitation/clunking when moving off in forward or reverse.

After installing the LSD pumpkin I have had a clunking from reverse to forward and forward to reverse for as long as I can remember. I just chalked it up to it being a helical LSD. This may be unrelated, but something noticeable as well on the highway with cruise control on, it bucks when it unloads and loads up and down hills. Never did that with the OEM pumpkin. Again I figure that normal for a LSD. The shop that did the install for me said the same thing. I even made a post about it on a group forum. I will have to dig it up.

I emailed Michael @MF last night, as I purchased through him. I don't know if he still works there.

Sorry, I should have said "grinding" rather than clunking.

Clunking from standstill is actually relatively normal, as this is simply the free-play between the driveshaft/pinion, LSD and axles. Gears expand when heated, so if there was no free-play, then the LSD would end up welding itself together

Good to hear, thank you for the quick response. I came across this thread after having experienced a hard vibration that I could duplicate a couple times @80mph in 4th @4k RPMs. I had to down shift and slow quickly the other day. When I can replicate it the vibration goes away when I push the clutch in (original OEM clutch/flywheel @82k). I am heading to work and my highway time will be brief, I will try to replicate it again. We have a pad lift at work that I am going to put it on today and see if I notice anything. Thank you.

Yeah I saw that the other day, hoping he might have heard back by now, or at least additional mentions will at some point get their attention.

I had been considering Mfactory for a while, and I understand their position regarding the last round of recalls and labor costs, etc. But I do hope they can at least keep up their reputation I've heard that they have great customer service generally.

Maybe on this one off, they can offer a full labor reimbursable including forensic investigation into what might have happened. It didn't sound like this was a unit bought a long time ago and never sent in to get fixed. This sounded like a fairly recent purchase to me (one that should not have any issues), but I could be wrong.

Ship the LSD to them. I pay shipping both ways.

That isn't really what I'm looking for here. I feel they should inspect/replace damaged parts in the diff also ... the pinion is chipped and I'm not sure if the bearing is OK or not.

I've never talked with a lawyer but this kinda seems like a good opportunity to do so.

Have you tried called/emailing Mfactory outside of this forum? Maybe they just aren't active on the forums too much anymore?

Guys, obviously call M Factory! Assuming they are set-up as a vendor and get alerts, it's always faster to just go to the source. Forum mentions is NOT actually talking to them (this goes for any vendor > having been a vendor in similar businesses.) DO it... DO IT!!

Really bummed to hear and see this. It's always the nickel part that makes a 4-figure problem.

Even one bolt coming loose can destroy the whole differential. Not good.

I thought the recall was from a few years ago. Are people still having issues with recent purchases?

Guy. I don't know of anyone else. Mine was maybe just a leftover and I had all the luck that day? Hope.


I still haven't pulled it apart and shipped it off. Maybe next weekend I can do that.

I was thinking it might have been a fluke from the last batch of bad bolts as well, but another one failed this past weekend it seems:
