the third brake light
I have read thru most/all of the info on our TBL. On installing a new TBL it is recommended to replace the 4 springs and nuts. Springs I can understand as new ones are "softer". But the nuts? Sure they are only a dollar or two, but still, why? As people have mentioned, new nuts look exactly the same as original nuts.

I just did mine and found that the springs were the same as the new ones I bought. I just reused the old ones. Made no sense to use the new ones. And you're right, no need to get new nuts. Check if your springs are the old or new ones. I think the newer ones have fewer coils. I also didn't torque the screws down all the way hoping that less tension on the light will prevent cracking in the future.
