Misfires - could it be caused by my dinan tune?

My car has been having misfires lately causing the vehicle to go into limp mode. The dealership suspects its the Dinan Software that was recently installed. But I recall the car doing the same thing at least once prior to the Stage 2 software install.

Has anyone been having any misfire issues? With or without a Dinan tune that make your vehicle go into limp mode?

This has happened to me at 3 times within the past few weeks. and once prior to my software install. Each time I was in a high gear cruising most recently I was in 4th gear at about 4000 rpm shifting to 5th when the car misfired and went into limp mode.

Im concerned about my safety as the engine vibrates and the throttle becomes inactive while I am on the highway city street. Ive been in such a position multiple times, one time my son was with me.

Never happened to me. I have Dinan S2 on a 2011 135i with DCT, same as you. I would guess it's something else.

No issues here either (S2 for a week), but the tune will definitely work those components a little harder. If there were issues with the coil packs or spark plugs, the tune may not be the cause, it's just revealing the need to have those items replaced.

Here's hoping it's a simple replacement exercise.

What codes are pulled?
Age of plugs/coils? Less likely, but injectors age?

Are you doing any maint, or all dealer?

Agree. Probably spark plugs, possibly coils. If you have at least 20k miles on your current plugs, I'd replace them full stop. If you have 60-80k miles on the coils, they're also coming up on their expiration date.

Agree with the above, start with the easy possible fixes first and try and find the root of the problem.

They said they replaced the injectors, coils and plugs within the past couple of weeks. The car is still having the stated issue. They said most recently that they removed the software and couldn't duplicate the issue. Thats the reason I asked if anyone else was experiencing the same issue. They replaced the software prior to returning the car to me.

I do not know what to do. I don't feel safe at all. The vehicle dit it today.

I have the codes. They happened to leave a worksheet in the car. I will get them and post them shortly.

The codes I see on the sheet say 2EE0, 2EE4 and 2EF1. I don't know if I am reading correctly.

I don't know if its saying the DTC also has a fault. They haven't mentioned anything about that.

I got the 2EE0 and 2EF4 codes yesterday while logging for a tune. In my case it's almost certainly because I didn't gap my spark plugs closely enough. First (and hopefully last) time I've ever gotten a misfire. You're positive they replaced your plugs and coils recently? Those two are responsible for the far majority of misfires as I understand it. Since you're still having issues, might be worth asking them to double check their work. The plugs seem likely since the frequency of misfires has gone way up since you put the tune on (which ups boost, and is harder on your plugs).

2EF4 is cylinder 6, 2EF1 is cylinder 5, for what it's worth. 2EE0 just notes misfires on multiple cylinders. But I'd ask that they check all 6 plugs. I replaced mine with factory plugs recently and they were allegedly pre-gapped, but they were WAY off.

I had a new plug that was bad and misfiring. diagnosed it by moving coil and plug and watching if the code moved. replaced that new plug with another new plug and that fixed it.

All maintenance has been done by one dealership or another one closer to where I used to live. They said they recently changed the plugs, coils and injectors.
