IMO, they look cartoony. Even slammed, the car is high off the ground and because of the 1ers short proportions, it looks strange
Pics are kind of deceiving so be wary. 18s look TINY with huge side walls in pics and in person fit the car perfectly. 19s look a little awkward in pics, but expect the same results of them looking even bigger in person. This can be different depending on the wheel...if a wheel has a big lip, it tends to make the wheel look smaller Obviously this is just my opinion and my thought process when I picked new wheels. |

I was worried as well so I decided on the 18" 313. They look much better in person.

18s looks a tad small in photos. but they look perfect in real life. Along with the performance implications, I've already convinced myself for awhile that 18s the best size.
That said, the AF-71 does look gorgeous and doesn't come in 18s. Since I track, my fav wheels atm are the EC-7s.

In all honesty the EC-7 was a consideration and I love the look of the alf. But I'm tired of that style wheel, I wish we had a bit more options in wheel styles. It's like each company brings out the same wheel and they call it a "new" wheel for the 1 when really its more of the same and I don't have the unlimited bank roll to spend of $1000 a piece wheels so kinda forced to pick from the 2 or 3 available wheel styles out there which most of them are similar to each other.. Sorry for the rant

This is like asking "Is banana pudding good?" If you like it, it's good.

they look good, but as far as performance and tires are concerned you're better off with 18s

Now, if the concern extends to durability (thnk Breytons), performance/fitment (heavy stock/VMR wheels/big 19"ers), and price (forged...), then there isn't that many choices, even for the style which got the abundant options so far. EC-7 is by far the only choice that gives all 3 of the above and some concativity to boot. For a car with 1-off size/offset combo like the 1er's, just can't complain. Now if you want more wheel styles to choose from, you just basically have bought the wrong car...

got quoted on these $2650 just rims.. is a bit more than i wanted to spend. My dilemma is i don't wanna run into rubbing issues and the 2 wheels i like are the VMR 713's which are only available in 19's and the MRR LT1 which rub in 18's so its like what to do.. I wish someone would post a picture of the LT1's on a 1 series 18's

I have seen 19's that look to big and 18's that look to small and a ton more in between. Personally i went with 18's because I wanted more rubber and tires are cheaper but I love the look of 19's. |

Ok as if just the appearance wasn't a hard enough decision.. Just how much did you guys suffer in going up 1" in wheel size? Did you notice a decrease in HP, Accel., Gas milage? Does your car feel slower as a result?
If I increase the diameter an inch but the weight stays the same will there be significant loss of straight line performance, hp, acceleration? The factory 264m wheels weigh in at about 100lbs (all 4), if i do 19inch 713's 8.5 width all the way around i'm roughly looking at the same weight as the stock 18's but its an inch taller and i know that should affect all the above mentioned factors.. can anyone confirm this? |

Yes. Everything will be affected. That's just physics.
The barrel of the wheel is the single heaviest component of the wheel. The Moment of Inertia is defined as I =mr^2. Where m is the mass and r is outward position of the mass. Meaning that as you push the barrel of the wheel further out (with mass constant) your resistance to changes in motion and direction changes (ie if you want performance you go to the smallest wheel that will fit the car) |

Like I said earlier, I dropped to 17"s when I cracked a stocker 264. It was night and day in terms of turn in and response (tho that also may be the 245s I have on the front) I would imagine that it's the reverse when going in the other direction, but I don't know from anything other than people's stories Like this story. The M3s official lap time around the ring is set on the 18"s because the car actually laps several seconds slower on the 19"s And that was when BMW testers set the time. |

Although I didn't weigh each one, I suspect there is not much weight difference either between the stock M Sport 18" wheels with runflats tires and my 19" SF-71s with non runflat tires.
