Pulled over AGAIN for speeding. It goes like this....

Officer: do you know how fast you were going?

Me: if I was going the speed limit you wouldn't be here

Officer: Do you know how many points you have on your license ?

Me: 5
(Note one more point and license is revoked)

Officer: Do you know how many points I could write you up for right now ?

Me: a lot

Officer: It's people like you......... twenty minutes later no ticket. Nice.

I don't get it, are you guys just lucky to get stopped and no ticket, or did some 'favors' to the cop? LOL.

Just luck and being cooperative, polite and respectful. First one was apparently a lot of paperwork and second one they figured out I was probably going home for spring break because my DL name/address was different than the info on the registration - said it’d be a crappy way to start spring break so just keep it under 80.

I get one about every 3-4 years. My last one was for running a red light (it was yellow when I accelerated). I used one of the online legal services and they got it knocked down to a non-moving violation without me having to do anything. I will use this service next time and every time from here on out.

I feel location matters too. I've spent half my life in the Seattle area and still visit frequently, cops are very visible there. I've been pulled over a handful of times there but just got warnings.

1 year now in SoCal and cops are a rare sight, especially on the highways. One can easily drive 85 on the highways without a worry, whereas in Seattle I'd be terrified of even going 75.

And no, that's not a typo.

Around these parts (small town), it's revenue generation really, and once the cops know you, they look out for you.

Some true stories.

My first ticket was for stopping AT the stop sign and not before the stop sign.

My second ticket was for a 58 in a 55.

I once got a ticket for "improperly backing" because the mayor hit me.

I've been held at gun-point for "running" from the cops when I had no idea they were chasing me (curvy road, at night, way ahead of them).

I once got stopped by an officer that admitted to completely making up the speed because he wasn't able to to get a lock on me. I was polite, like always, and ended up getting out of the ticket completely. He didn't make it to court because on the same day he pulled me over, he had pulled an older couple over and had them on the ground at gun-point, so he was in court himself. The judge dropped all charges.

I've been given a drag-racing ticket for road racing (the cop literally did not know the difference).

I've been given a ticket for 152 in a 55, even though the car I had (1986 MR-2) would not do 152.

There's more, but that'll suffice.
Small towns are bad! Their Deputies / Officers are usually bored, underpaid, undertrained and over supervised. I'm retired from a big city department and didn't have time for traffic stops or tickets. Which is cool because I hated writing them. It is a myth that cops make money writing tickets. However, we did have a Traffic Unit who hooked people up big time but that was their only responsibility. We even called them the "Hitler Youth".

When I was younger, I had multiple per year. Now I'm more careful about when and where I have fun, no issues in at least a decade.

Or maybe I just recovered from all the TBIs. Dunno.

It is the State! Cities only made money off local ordinance and parking tickets.

Got it.

Back in the 80's when drunk driving was huge, I always wished they would have made a deal, like they'll pull you over for speeding, but if you weren't drinking then they would let you off, like sort of a deterrent to drink and drive, but forgiving those who didn't a bit. No such luck.

I think there is some truth to aggressive driving being a menace, but the same is true of old people driving, but you don't see them getting tickets left and right.

Was on the freeway (65 mph speed limit)
Took an exit (40 mph speed limit) and was going 40mph.
Took a right turn there weren't any speed limit signs and no residential area. Honestly, it is about a mile long drive up a hill to reach the closest residential area. I went 40 mph as the previous road was a 40.

Cop lit me up for going "42" on a 25. This placed me in the second tier of speeding violations giving me a point on my license. I took traffic school to get rid of the point but it is still BS. Shit if I knew I was violating the law, I would've floored it and felt a full 1st gear pull bringing me up to 42mph.

Yes folks, in CA the speed limit is 25 on non freeways if they aren't indicated.

Your experience is exactly why people go to court.

If there is one thing I've learned by getting 50+ tickets is that no one cares about your safety or the safety of others; it's all about the money. Ask for double the fine and a reduction to a non-moving violation and they will take it 99% of the time.

But in your case I would have gotten the ticket dropped for no sign. I've done that multiple times.

I’m around .2.
6 in 30 years.

I received a distracted driving ticket once while driving through a speed trap at the speed limit. I yelled “shit cops” and my girlfriend’s head popped up out of my lap and the cop saw it.
He laughed handing me that one.

lots of tickets between high school and college. at least 10 moving violations. at one point I was 1 ticket away from losing my license and my friend actually did and had to get that sr22 insurance or whatever its called.

once I moved to a big city cops didn't seem to care about people going 10-20 over the limit as they had real crime to worry about. I also got a radar detector.

I still speed and push my cars hard with traction control off. But I only do it outside of city limits at certain times now.

Pulled over countless times in my driving career. Less than 5 tickets total. Those that I have not been able to chat my way out of, I was able to attend driving school. I am now on a first name basis of the guy who teaches the driving education classes. The last time I was in there, he asked if I wanted to teach the class for him. I'm going to guesstimate that I've been through driving education 12-15 times. Whatever saves the points.

I can only recall paying 4 tickets. All by state troopers in different counties.

The last time I was pulled over, the officer actually told me I just looked like I was up to no good. In his defense, I was driving a completely murdered out G35 with a baseball cap pulled down almost over my eyes. He thought he was pulling over a drug dealer. Rather than getting a drug bust under his belt, he ended up asking advice on car polishing and detailing after complimenting me on "how damn shiny" my car was.

I haven't been pulled over in at least 10 years even though I speed as frequently and typically faster than I did in my youth. (I also got pulled over twice in one day, but only got 1 ticket).

I chalk it up to living in Massachusetts, because speeding and traffic tickets have been on a large decline:

This article showed 2011 was on pace for 35% less speeding tickets than 2008:
http://archive.boston.com/news/local...massachusetts/

Traffic violations as a whole are also way down, this 2017 article showed 2016 traffic violations (including speeding) were down 35% over 2009:
https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/20...mqI/story.html

This definitely mirrors what I see on the roads. Very rarely see speed traps, or cops in hiding. When visiting relatives in NYS, my wife got ticketed twice, about 6 months apart -- 82 in 65 zone and 79 in 55 zone. She felt it was not excessive and those speeds wouldn't get you pulled over in MA (she has never been pulled over in MA).

It's not rocket science, but if you are zipping through cities 20mph over the limit, even 10 over the limit, speeding in residential areas, places with a lot of people or cars, then the police are looking for you. Sure, lots of people could handle more speed...if they could plan for and anticipate everything. But that's why the limits are there, because you can't anticipate the unexpected. Like the kid in a residential area that jumps out from behind a bush following a ball, etc. Off of that high horse, there are plenty of places that aren't "high enforcement" where this is not the case. Being aware of your surroundings, not attracting attention and a little bit of critical thinking can eliminate the possibility of a ticket to nearly zero, still having "fun" at times and places.

I've had people tell me that they'd "get tickets all the time" if the were driving my cars, like somehow when they get in the car, they just drive around with the accelerator floored or somehow the speed is uncontrollable. That is such BS. If the metro is endless where you live and you don't get out to less populated areas...well then speeding during your daily driving is probably going to catch up with you. Many people rationalize 10 over as "well, everyone is going 10 over" or "cops don't ticket people for 10 over". That'll catch up with you. Now, if it's a metro where the traffic really is doing 10 over AND there are people going faster than that in the left lane, you might get away with it as long as an officer doesn't pull up behind you...but that's where being aware of your surroundings comes in. If you're the one on the left going faster, because everyone on the right is going 10 over, you are automatically volunteering for a ticket. Lastly, I see lots of people claim that "traffic always moves at x here" and going to those places, I generally never experience this, driving the same roads. Does it move a little over the speed limit, yes, a times. Is the majority of traffic going the speeds they claim? No. Again, stick out and you are nominating yourself for a ticket. It's not real complicated.
