Ive been watching the tuning options on e90 for months now. Right now I'm leaning towards the Helix...but that can always change.

I was going to get the 135 as a project car. But after a 20 min test drive I was so impressed with the 135 I decide to wait to get to know my car before I start tuning/ modding it. It is so well made I don’t want to screw it up. I plan on driving it hard for 2 months and THEN start the modding. I get my car in June so I think my project will start in August.

I will tune it someday, but for a while I will just put tires on and when the brakes need changing I will switch to more performance oriented brakes. In other words, I don't wish to junk all the parts I bought with the car. I don't want to add a lot of hp because then I will just use more tires.

I'll be making an appointment shortly after I get the car with Helix. I'll be popping in an FMIC, BMS air intake, Helix FMIC, and RR catless DPs.

Wasn't this common knowledge? :iono: I thought it was understood that if you reflash the ECU, the dealer will be able to tell? That's part of why piggybacks are so popular.

Hmm.. I'll bet they programmed the ecu to record fault codes when boost goes above a certain value. Most fault codes are erased by unplugging the ecu, or can be cleared by cheap obd code readers. How many people with piggyback's would even think to check for codes before driving to the dealer? In my case, I don't want to get involved in that type of activity.. so I'll wait and buy dinan or bmw performance software.

The stock ecu will not see higher than normal boost with a piggy back. A Piggyback intercepts and modifies the signals going to the ECU into thinking all is running stock as far as I know.

Might want to read a little closer. He is stating that BMW is aware of the tune-ability of the N54 and the mad dash of regional tuners to capitalize on this. So BMW has implemented some sort of protocol or software to detect if the car is, or has used an aftermarket piggyback. Eunosracr, If you know 2 and 3, then you don't have to look for 5. (2+3=5). The ECU tracks all kinds of data and if BMW has new software to look at a particular set of variables that indicate an aftermarket tune, then your caught. We knew this wasn't going to go on forever. BMW has a comprehensive warranty and with the rash of people modifying their leases, BMW has to protect their cars from warranty and CPO vehicles. |

Where'd you get that info? I haven't heard anything to indicate that anywhere. AFAIK, it will record fault codes, but not the high boost, because it won't see the boost as higher than normal.

The dealer can not detect a piggy back. Assuming you took it out = ). A few owners over on e90post.com had bmw do a scan with the piggybacks still connected and they did not see it. As long as they did not modify anything on the 1 series it will be the same.
