LSD and Ediff
My 135i has the mechanical LSD mounted. And there is NO problem with Ediff kicking in.
When everything fully turned off. The mechanical LSD does it work and no braking thru the ediff anymore. Long slides Lovely. pffff happy. |

If I end up with a 135 a proper diff is high on my priorities. I too am curious which unit it was and the approximate costs involved. Not that I'm likley to pay the same here in Florida as you did in Holland, but it's a point of referrence.

Advevo is a racing driver, so he probably got his race team to do it for free. Haha.
Really good to hear though. What are the down side with the LSD on the road? I have never had any non-factory LSD before. I am very keen on this. |

I make some driftmovies for ya guys but with my new car i mostly drift on wet roads. On dry roads my tires are to pieces in no time
Drexler is very expensive because its a base racing diff. It has 40procent lock and 30procent lock on braking. Drexler is about 2000 euro s for the diff. But at quaife you can get one much cheaper. |

I have ordered a diff from an automatic 135i. Which has a shorter gearing. In that diff the ring was not wealded.
Only problem was the automatic diff housing was 2.1 cm shorter. So my middle bearing did not fit anymore from my propshaft. So i needed to change something to my bearing to get it fit. If you go with a manual diff housing you don t have that problem. But then you don t have the shorter final gear. I have no 3.46 instead of 3.06. The car goes so damn fast. My dealer said it s now faster than the z4 mcoupe which i drive now. |

When you go over a curb and you have one wheel off the ground a quaife diff works like an open diff then.
Drexler don t. But he now you talking extreme. Quaife is enough. But i have good contact to drexler that s why i use them. |

Wow, with a 3.06, the acceleration would be mind boggling. Add ECU remap to that, and you have a rocketship! I wonder what the top speed is with the shorter gearing? Some of the tracks I go to like Phillip Island (the MotoGP track) are very much a high speed track, and something like the 135i would probably hit 240kmh in various parts.

3.46 is perfect because you can stil hit the limiter. Thats why i choose that.
The best is to just order a quaife and a 3.46 gearing and put it in orginal 3.08 diff housing. Then you have no fitting problems like i had. My car goes real fast imagine a chip to 360hp or more with 3.46 gearing. you better get good tire deals then |

Sounds like that is what I should be doing. I think for anyone not concerned about fuel consumption, that is perfect. But tell me, why did you go with a auto diff housing? Why didn't you just use a 3.46 gearing in a manual diff housing?

Why
Because i want to keep my orginal diff in the garage if i sell the car it goes back on. So i ordered a new complete diff from bmw. I had 2 choices. Order a 3.08 diff and send it to drexler and build in 3.46 and LSD or Order a 3.46 diff and send it to drexler and build in LSD. Choice 2 is cheaper. But what i did not know was that a 3.46 automatic diff is 2.1 cm shorter. So i needed to make some adjustments on the propshaft middle bearing. Nicer would be if it was bolt on. So next time i order a complete diff from drexler with the good final gear. Which is bolt on. |
