Surprise everybody! I know I've said several times on this forum that I would never sell my 135i, but guess what, I did. I sold my 2011 135i with just over 46K miles for $20,000. Was very happy with the price. Honestly, just got bored with it, plus wanted some of the newer tech that has been available for a while now.
Bought a 2016 VW Jetta GLI SEL with 30K miles for $18,000. This car has a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo engine with the DSG transmission. Feels faster than my 1er did at the start but doesn't have near the horsepower or torque that my 1er had. Supposed to be the sedan version of the GTI. Don't know if it's all that, but it is a lot of fun to drive. Has a nice, sporty suspension but only has 207 lb-ft of torque versus the 2016 GTI's 258 lb-ft. Same HP as the GTI at 210. Only weighs about 3150 lbs, so lighter than my 1er. Couldn't be happier with the car. Electric steering feels great and is much lighter than my 1er's artificial heft and feels pretty connected, with a leather wrapped wheel that feels better than my M Sport wheel did. Interior is also better. Lots of soft touch materials. I love the nicely bolstered leatherette seats and all the red accents. Fit and finish is very good and I love the tech, which includes a rearview camera and nav, and more. I'm now a bit spoiled by the safety features, which I thought in the past would bother me, they don't. Have been around this forum since 2008 when I bought my first 1er, but lurked until 2014, after I bought my second 1er. Love this place and love the people. You guys are great! Finally just got the itch and needed to move on. Very happy with my new (to me) car. Have said more than once here that I only buy new, but I bought this car for $13,000 less than the sticker price and I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. Engine is very clean as is the interior. Exterior shows a little wear with a nick here and there but this is to be expected on a car with 30K miles. Otherwise the paint looks great. No door dings, no rattles, and feels very solid. Never been good with pics, and only have an iPhone to take them with, so decided to use a pic of another 2016 VW GLI SEL for sale to give you guys an example of what my car looks like. Everything is exactly the same. Will miss this forum and all of you wonderful people. I wish the best for all of you. PS - if you want to see more of this car, here is the website this pic came from, with more pics of the car below which is the same as mine. Take care, everybody! https://www.grandmotorcars.com/detai...5gm219890.html Edit: the car on the website above finally sold, so no more pics other than the one I posted.

Sad to see you go bud but looks like you’re going to have fun w that sweet ride you just got! Aside from the need for tech, was the selling price a big factor in you letting go of your 1er? Most of us here do say that we’ll never sell, butI guess that is all relative
Wish you the best and enjoy it in good health! |

Congrats and good luck with the New To You!
GLI's are a great ride, and should be easier on the wallet... I still miss my GTI!

As a prior 135i owner and active member you were a great resource, I'm sorry to see you go, you'll be missed but I'm sure you'll bring value in that community.

And yeah, the Golf R is a very nice car. Its more than I need or want, though. Plus, not in love with a hatchback. Don't need all-wheel-drive, or 300HP anymore. The engine in my GLI is peppy enough and all the power I need. It's a fun car and takes off from a start pretty quick.

I know you've helped me with a few of my first issues starting off in the e8x world. I appreciate it! I bought my 2011 135i with 45k miles at 20k around 2 years ago lol, pretty good sale id say so.
Congrats on the purchase! Enjoy the new adventure! I was in my local DT area 2 nights ago and saw an 18 GTI next to an 18 GLI. That quickly started the convo between some friends about which one you'd rather have. We all picked GLI lol. |
