Just wondering if anyone has or knows the window tinting policy for Germany? Is it allowed for the front side windows at any %? Thanks.

They made me remove my front tint on my Subaru before going into the inspection bay. They said it wouldnt pass if my front windows were tinted. However, new cars (ie our BMW's) do not require inspection, so I dunno.

By German law, which the inspection place enforces, you cannot have any tint on the doors, no matter how light it might be. Now.........if your car is a 2009 or above.......all you gotta do is show up with your paperwork and walla......plates for 2 years. You DO NOT have to run your car through inspection. I haven't seen anyone get pulled over yet by the tinting though.

This was one advantage to the old "AD" and "HK" and "AF" plates - that it allowed us to be exempt from certain German KFZ(auto) laws, since those plates were from the USAEUR and not the Germans. The only tint that is allowed is on the rear windows. OR only if it came from teh factory THAT way. AND they will want something in writting saying so. |

depending on where u at. I knwo a guy at spang that did my tint on my old 135i for about 100 euros
If you go with a german place you gotta find someone that does the front, cuz not everyone will. |

Awesome, thanks guys for the information. Yeah I waited to tint my windows while I was in FL for the 10 months because I knew if I came back here I might have a problem. I think I'll be looking for a place to get it done around Spang --nothing significantly dark. I just want some darkening because with my Monaco Blue paint, I think it'll look a lot better.

I was looking into this and, being German law, the way it comes across is it's illegal/won't pass inspection but not illegal to "operate". Of course this is probably some idiom in translation and if for some reason the Politzei pull you over/stop you I'm sure there will be something "said". I do know that once I get back and get my 1er I'll be tracking down some "tintage"

Me too, if I get sent back to the east coast, I already have a place picked out that will do it, lol. I really want my tint back, my last 2 cars were tinted, its driving me crazy here, hurts my eyes at night. I wear glasses and its such an issue we got a waiver for back in DE to allow us to have tint on our cars. Law there is no more than 75%, so basically no tint at all. |

And, my 135 is still awaiting trans from Bremerhaven port --so hopefully I get it this week!! I'm getting very anxious to drive her again. In fact, I was stupid and test drove the Z4 today. Fantastic car and I'm seriously thinking about getting one. The 135 is nice, but I'm looking for more of a couple/sports car. However, that may just be my brain telling me it's about time to get back into my 135. Five weeks on a boat is just too long!!!!

Ouch, 5 weeks?! Thats rough dude. I had mine in 4, but it sat up there at that damn port forever. My suggestion? Stop test driving cars, lol. Go rent a POS car for a little while, it will make you appreciate your 135i a lot more, trust me. There is this place in Ramstein called Powell's. They have the cheapest rental cars, but it shows. These cars are crappy, straight up bad, but hell, for 300euros for a month, you can't beat it. I went there when I first got here and I was waiting for my Subaru to arrive. Then again when I was waiting for my 135i to be delivered. Both times I appreciated getting my car back a lot more. |
