Very creative solution on the radiator AT lines. By doing it the way you have it instead of blocking it off, does that mean your coolant will continue to circulate and help cool the engine?

I doubt it'll make much of a difference. I could have left the AT cooler on and just pulled the trans lines to act as a second tiny cooler but I'd rather keep it tidy under there.

Think you could route the engine oil through it before the air to oil cooler? Bet that would help out oil temps quite a bit.

The beautiful GS6-53BZ MT showed up today. I've got almost everything I need to do the swap so I'm going to start removing the AT this weekend.

Decided to go with XClutch. Purchased the Chromoly Flywheel, 9 in. Twin Solid Organic Clutch Disc kit (XKBM23595-2G), good for 900ft-lb

Still waiting for the Turner coolant relocation tank.....

Auto trans out, took about 6 hours. Getting to the trans/engine bolts was the hardest part. Just waiting on the clutch and flywheel now.

Usually a spectator while people build/solve given that everyone has their ideas that work for them, but ….if you’re waiting on shift linkage have you considered alternatives……such as:

https://coolerworx.com/shop/short-sh...r-bmw-gearbox/

or something similar?

For me the difference in feel versus the stock linkage was literally night and day.

Really appreciate your documentation.

Thanks, yes I was actually considering the RTD short shifter, but ended up buying the Turner adjustable short shifter and upgraded bushings. I figured this would be a good option to start with, and I can always upgrade to a self-centering shifter down the road if I feel the need. Wondering if I should upgrade to the UUC DSSR while I'm at it.

The 9" Solid Organic Twin Disc Clutch from XClutch showed up today. Most of the parts I need to finish up the trans swap and to get the motor started keep getting pushed out so may be a while before the next update..

Turner expansion tank relocation kit arrived (ordered in Sept), and it looks like a few more parts shipped out. Hopefully I can make some decent progress this month.

Attempting to remove the pilot bearing using grease and Pascal's Law, haven't been able to get it to budge though. May need to get a lever actuated grease gun... Youtube made it look easy using this method...

Why am I looking at the bell housing, etc? The pilot bearing should be in the end of the crankshaft, or in the flywheel...

This pilot bearing is located in the center of the transmission input shaft.

That's a first for me. What does it pilot into? Or maybe I should ask what pilots into it...

It pilots into the shaft on the flywheel. You can see it in the second photo in post #100.

Ok, had to bust out the big guns. Couldn't have been easier, 3 pumps and it popped right out. Always use the right tool for the job!

Random black friday purchase. I think they look good, and should make rev-matching downshifts easier.

Can you provide the part numbers used to convert from auto to manual? I’ve search the forums, but there isn’t any information in regards to the 1 series, specifically the 135i.

So, it's pretty much the same as the e90. Vehicular DIY made a great 3-part series on YouTube to walk you through step-by-step, this is the guidance I used for the swap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szg15efwGzY

I plan to put together a DIY once I finish the swap. I'm still waiting on a few things before I put the trans back in and do the coding. Here is a list of what I ordered, not all the PN's are listed though. I used https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select to figure out the parts I needed.
