New member/owner...
Well, joined the ranks.
After driving E36, E46 and E37s for the past 10 years it's finally time to say goodbye (the e36 long gone...) Sold a 330ci zhp, 02 M roadster Consolidated into an 09 crimson 135i, black leather, piano black trim sport step cold weather premium bluetooth, ipod hi fi sound (I have to do some more research on this...) 6800 miles, just over a year old... so i'll start with jb3/dci/bt cable combo....probably hid angels... then see where it takes me. This car takes me back to the many V8s of my past (I was a mustang/fbody/vette guy for about 8 yrs before the bmws)....While the S54 is a monster on boil, it just needs to be driven hard...Love the low end torque. And I know...Photos next week... I've been on these boards too long and know how to search too well, so i don't have any posts and can't pm anyone yet. So i'll just throw this one up there... |

had 98 pewter auto glass top and 00 yellow/black convertible 6 spd.
these were just drivers, no major mods on either. we had done straight line with some fox bodies, and a 97 cobra that were running mid 10s-hi 11s, then got into circle track for about 2 years with a 97 f body. the 97ss (my LT1 car) in my name...the car was just too heavy. used to tear up front spindles and was hard on brakes to say the least and bump steer was unreal. However, the LS1 was an awesome motor (had 99 ss, and 01 ws6a). I'm sure it's emissions that killed it, but stock they made 300/300 at the wheels, got 18/25 in 4 spd autos and 18/29 with the manual. sounds like the N54 to me, just 10+ years earlier. It's light, compact, and solid. Our stock 01 WS6 TA, auto ran 12.9@109... Since then I've kept 2 BMWs. one sport, one practical. I've gone through an e36 M3, to a z3M (00 S52), then e46 M3, back to z3m (02 S54) in the fun line and ran a 328ci, to a 330i, to 325ci (about 3 mo...sucker for red color) and then the 330ci zhp. Now the 135i, and next week picking up a 530xi and selling the wifes audi... And yes I know photos will come. Should have shot some at dealership; since my 420 mile ride back was littered with bugs and then heavy T-storms so it's dirty and we're going away for the weekend today... Joe |

Feels like my warmed over ls1 with quick shifts with the a6 in this car vs the a4 in that one...
But comparing say a third/fourth gear pull on the highway (back road) with this car vs a throttle body, header/exhaust, lid on an ls1 F bod seems very similar. That car was capable (manual trans and weak rear end on f bods) of mid 12s at 115s or so. Stock it felt more like an S52, (00 M roadster). The n54 has better pull along the range, but similarly chokes out a bit up top... Now on program 5 it pulls hard like the S54 (02 M3 and 02 M roadster) but through a longer RPM range. The S54 is a screamer, that rewards you with a song and power that's awesome up top. But now this car with the tune and DCI makes a little better noise and pulls hard like that, but all through the RPM range. Definitely feels faster than either of my previous M cars did. Plus drive it docile and it's like a kitten...and one my wife can drive. I know I'm a traitor buying a steptronic this time, but in traffic, on the phone, and having a car my wife can easily drive (and therefore no headaches)...that was the only answer for me. I'm probably going to pick up an early water cooled 911 with a manual this fall/winter if i can find a deal on one as a 'toy' car.... |
