WTB: 6MT 128i
Open to basically any 128i with a manual so long as it's clean title. I'm in Norwalk, CT and would prefer something local, but willing to travel/ship for the right one. Thanks, Jerry |

White / Coral/ 6 mt /M sport / 106k/ $8000 "This car is in excellent condition with no known issues, no modifications, 106k miles, and I am the 3rd Owner. It is white with red leather which is the best color combination BMW makes (in my opinion). This the first year of the 1 Series, and one of the last normally aspirated models for BMW. It has been a problem free car during my 3 year ownership and is a blast to drive. The car includes the Sport Package (seats, upgraded suspension) and adaptive headlights. I have added an M shift knob and alcantara shift boot. The oil has been changed regularly, the tires were replaced at 95k miles with Michelin Pilot Sports (225/45/ZR17), and front suspension, drive belt, and waterpump replaced at 75k (by the previous owner). The standard staggered sized rims were replaced with 225/17 rims on all 4 corners. I believe the car has been in the south its whole life, so no rust worries. There are a couple of small chips in windshield and the CARFAX report may have minor damage reported in 9/19 (the hood was damage due to road debris, fixed professionally, resulting in the hood being repainted). I am selling because it is time for me to try out another German auto brand."

If you were a member of BMWCCA you could reach out to Tarheel chapter in Charlotte or Smokey Mountain in Knoxville. I'm sure someone in 1 of those 2 places live in Ashville and could put eyes on it.

For the record, I am also on the hunt for a 128i 6mt. This is a bit out of my price range but maybe not yours! Looks cherry! |

I think they got the "SHORT" shifter wrong....they meant short throw....not short length....

So help me out here... I've found a 2010 MSport 128i 6mt with 120k miles and a 2012 base 128i 6mt with 60k miles. Which would you guys spring for? Is the MSport package worth twice as many miles?

You'll need ask a lot of questions; -maintenance records? the 120K should be due for it's 3rd suspension refresh -has the 120 car had water pump, OFH gasket, battery, valve cover gasket changed recently? -have both been driven in winter snow and salt? -what brand tires are on the cars right now? Michelin, Bridgestone etc=good. Wang Ho Super Trak=no so good. -the 60K car "may" soon be due for water pump, OFHG, valve cover gasket, battery, rear shocks. HOWEVER, I have an 08 w/63K and I've only needed the VCG; all else is still original {even the battery} |

Within the past 15-months I've purchased two 128i's both with around 90k on them. Both had recently had the normal OFH gasket, VC gasket, first time for both. One had had a battery replaced. Within three months the newer one needed a battery after eight-years on the original. It always started but would trip a "low battery" warning and kill comfort-access until charged back up. No problem since replacing the battery. The '08 Sport is from Texas and the '13 M-sport is from Wisconsin. The Texas car has developed a bubble in the dash and has faded liquid-crystal darkening in the exterior mirrors rom the heat. The WI car has suffered a frozen rear caliper, assuming from the salt. Not sure where the middle ground on these is geographically. Both are on original shocks with no issues and have no problem with suspension bushings and don't appear to have been replaced. They don't shimmy, don't creak or pop, and handle well and—as reference—in my job I drive new BMWs all day long before the drive home in my old one. I would not consider one of these without either the Sport or M-sport package. I know there are the rare base models with sport seats, but I doubt the one "odiford" has found is one of those. Other than that, both sport and m-sport have Shadowline trim, sport seats, and sport suspension. M-sport offers different wheels, different front and rear bumpers and rockers, and different steering wheel and shift knob. I much prefer the M-sport (my car) to my wife's Sport package car and I'd never consider a base model. But that's just me. I also prefer power seats to non. Later Nav to base. And leather (as little as there really is in these) to leatherette (which always cracks). My wife's car even has PDC. Mine has H/K sound. Her's is automatic (arthritic knee) and mine is 6MT. Did I say I just won't even consider one with vinyl seats? Buying one of these with average miles versus low-miles didn't bother me since they are both daily drivers. To pay any huge premium for low miles and then mile it up quickly sort of defeats the purpose but you have to do a balance sheet on how much more you are paying for half the miles, or whatever percentage. I paid a premium for both of my cars, either of which would be considered "low miles" by KBB or other sources even at 90k. But I don't know if I'd found the same cars with one-third fewer miles if I'd have paid one-third more money for it. Take these comments for what they're worth but I own over 20 BMWs currently and have owned BMWs since 1971. I think I've learned a few things about them over that time. I also started selling BMWs in 1976 when 2002 was a model and not a year! |
