airbag re programming?

well my car went back to the dealer for service. everytime a passenger get in, a warning about the airbag turns off. they said it will take 2 day at the most to replace the sensor. boy were they wrong. today is 4 days and turns out after replacing the part the airbag system need to be reprogram. the service advisior said they limit engineers in the area that can do it, and the next available engineer would be next friday. *sigh* another week with the e46 loaner. does anyone know if they need an engineer to reprogram this?? e90fleet??thanks.

The USA uses its own unique passenger sensor mat in the seat. It does requiere programming ( the actual sensor gets programmed ), and requires a special connector to hook up the programming computer to it.

Maybe your dealership doesnt have this connector and hires someone else to come do it when required

I noticed the same thing coming back from Monterey. The light went off after about fifteen minutes. My girlfriend was in the seat the whole time.
The light never came on before the software update, even with the seat empty. The dealer I bought it from said they deactivated the light because people were confused about what it meant. It still stays off with the seat empty.

congrads guys

your girls are not fat

yeah, the light will stay off with nobody on it, but if you plug in the seatbelt with nobody there the light will come on. it's my understanding that the light being on = no airbag for the passenger

I've had the same problem since I got my car back in May.

It seems that the sensors in the seat that control whether the airbag is activated or not are programmable. They reprogrammed them the last time I took my car in (November). It seems to be working fine now.

Light on means car detects SOMETHING on the seat, but no airbag. I had to have the seat cushion and sensor replaced. They did have to flash the car once the new sensor was installed. I had to wait (with car in my possession) for about 3 weeks for cushion and sensor to come. No problems since replacement.

You would think something like this would be perfect. BMW obviously did a special thing, with the light and all in the US to avoid legal action being taken against them if a BMW driver has an accident...

If they've gone to all this trouble to make the US E90's different, to avoid hassle...why are they opening the door wide open to shit - because these things aren't working properly!
